Speculation: Rangers Head Coach Search (Laviolette being finalized? According to Vince and Friedman)

That’s not during the cup final. Consider how absurd it would be and arrogant it would be for the Rangers to think anyone would care about who they hire as a coach if they do so during the most important series of the season. It’s absurd and selfish to do— the only way they do it is if they want to bury who they hire which of course they won’t want to do.


I never said my post was fact- I said “they must have”. Not “they have”. So relax their buddy- I took the time to find a link to show what I was trying to say. Deep breath- it will be ok.

The exact same amount of people will care, just as much or as little as they would have during anytime of the year. Rangers aren't going to be waiting 2 weeks to announce their coach. When they figured out who it will be, it will be announced.

Imagine Drury announces this and the Florida Panthers take exception- geee maybe it’s possible they won’t want to trade with him or I don’t know, think it’s a bs move done by a low class organization that they will play hardball with next time around. Maybe Vegas will get so worked up that given the next trade they might want to make with the Rangers they will ask for a bit more??? Ever consider that??? Noooo of course not because the entire hockey world should be just hanging on with every breath just waiting to see who this organization hires as their coach.

You know who Don LaGreca is…ever heard of him??? Well he’s the Rangers radio announcer when Albert is not available. He also has a radio show and a hockey podcast- so. WAY MORE CREDIBLE THAN YOU! He made this exact point I’m making on the radio show the other day that it’s curtesy to wait until after the cup is handed out before announcing major news.

Maybe take a break from posting here(. 22,000 posts I mean wow) and take in some new perspectives. Broaden your sources and a whole new— much more rational perspective comes into focus.

Enjoy the two weeks on no Ranger news- it might do you some good given how worked up you are to be right on this point…it’s just too easy around here!

And for the record I do actually agree with JHS. I don't think the NHL likes ANY news coming out and competing with the cup final. I do think that is a thing. It's not a written rule but the NHL doesn't like it.

Sorry to butt in as an outsider but as a fan of another team about to make a coaching hire, I had to look up if this 'respect' idea holds water and if all teams are just going to wait until the Cup is handed out before announcing their hires... Last year it seems most teams announced new head coaches around June 30 or so before free agency.

However the Flyers announced hiring Tortorella on June 16, 2022 (ESPN), one day after the first game of the Stanley Cup final. Not sure if we count the Flyers here but anyway...

The Golden Knights announced (ESPN again) their hire one day before the first final, on June 14, 2022.

I didn't go back any further but it would seem that last year at least two teams put their own needs first before others'...

Mean is ok if you actually win because of the attitude. If you just throw a shit fit and alienate all your players over every little thing with no results to show for it - which is what Roy has done coaching at this level - then people don’t like it.

Some people actually liked Renney, and that is exactly what he did.

Renney and his staff helped bring respectability back to the Rangers. He had his flaws, like all coaches. If it wasn't for the culture he built the franchise would have still been shit like it was for the 7 seasons prior. Unlike Tortorella, Vigneault, and Gallant who took over teams ready for contention, Renney had to help build a winner from the ground up, deal with the media, did so, and then did what he could to get them as far as they could go. That's why people liked him.All coaches have a shelf life and he wasn't immune to that.

Vigneault had his teams turtle constantly and it cost them a Cup. Tortorella had his teams chasing the puck around and it cost them getting to a Cup Final. Gallant was and idiot and had no clue how to properly utilize the players he had and he couldn't adjust and it cost them a chance to play for the Cup. Quinn had issues but he was here to develop young players he was never going to be the one to win a Cup here. Renney's teams got f***ed by the league when facing darling teams in the playoffs otherwise they could've went all the way. And at least he recognized how to put a kid on the PP.

That makes no sense. These are professional organizations in a multibillion dollar league. They're not first graders starved for attention who don't like it when announcements from other teams make the news.

Give me a break. Hiring for a vacant position does not detract any attention away from the SCF. People can pay attention to more than one story at a time (well most people).

Don LsGreca. I hate that guy. That guy is a Devil guy. He is the ultimate guy who was in the right spot at the right time. He previously worked at WFAN. He talked about his Devils fandom. When the Rangers and Devils were in game 7 OT in 1994, Don was rooting for the Devils.

Michael Kay is incapable of doing a show by himself so they have two sidekicks for him.

MSG doesn't give a shit about hockey having Don do their games on the radio. Do people still listen to the radio?

Kay couldn't beat Francesa and Russo and they barely beat Francesa who was mailing it in at the end of his career.

I was kinda hoping the Rangers would look at a European guy for coach. Add a little Herb Brooks flavor to the league. I’m just curious what some of you guys thought about the Brooks years as I was in the Navy during that time and was unable to watch any games.
