After reading all these posts I have come to the conclusion that most people on this board will not be happy with any hiring we make. Get the feeling that most here would have problems hiring Toe Blake, Bowman or Arbour in their prime.
The bigger problem is none of those names could win a cup with this roster.

Honestly, it doesn't matter who is hired, we're gunna hate them after a year anyway.
and the players will want him out by December. They will kick him out in the next 2 years anyways. Maybe the core needs to be broken up. This cant keep happening. Has this happened to other teams where the core basically got rid of 3 coaches back to back?

One thing's for sure, the Rangers really know how to keep things a secret with barely any legitimate leaks coming out. We've gone from the Rangers want a veteran coach who knows how to win to Laviolette is getting the job to maybe Drury is going to hire his buddy from college who will be his puppet to now speculation the Rangers need to hire Roy who will get in everyone's cages and potentially clash with management. I think we're at the point now where we really don't know anything in terms of who they're hiring.

Maybe Drury is gonna just be GM and coach

There is a reason that coaches get rehired: they've proved that, at some point in the past, the can indeed coach and had success. When they were fired, it was not generally because of interpersonal problems with the GM or management or their players, but because the team did not do well or meet expectations. Roy does not meet these requirements. He left leaving harsh feeling behind and questions about his ability to deal with, not just the on-ice aspects of coaching where he did have success, at least in his first year, all the off-ice matters that are, in many ways, the most important part of the job. Hiring him here, no matter what the emotional appeal may be for a team that is rather low-key, just reeks of a disaster in the making. Has he learned in his exile from the NHL what it takes to be a successful coach on a big stage? Maybe, but I have my doubts.

Leach with knoblauch and Hynes as assistants is probably best case IMO. A young staff that is familiar with one another already and all have different strengths.

Along with the unknown with Roy, he absolutely would not stand for Panarin’s shit so he has that going for him. Like @Synergy27 said, it may be the hire needed to drive him out of town and that alone may be worth it.
I'd be on board with this just because it isn't "Lather, rinse, repeat" NYR same 'ol same 'ol shit.

That being said the coach change isn't gonna solve the myriad of issues.

The Rangers should put Knoblauch on the coaching staff. Larry Brooks reported on a recent NY Post podcast that Knoblauch interviewed in Jersey for the job which went to Ruff and the for Buffalo job which went to Granato. He did a good job coaching the Rangers during Covid. Give Knoblauch a nice increase in salary. He knows all of the Rangers young players and the Rangers will need those young guys to fill roster spots. Knoblauch runs the PP and forwards. The Rangers need all of the brain power they can muster in New York.

Who was the coach?
Regardless of who gets hired for the head job, if it's not Knoblauch, he should be an assistant on the staff and be the next head coach in waiting.

I wonder if a bench team of:

Roy, Boudreau, Knoblauch would work...
I'm down.

Agree with thw tight-lipness asessment, but the part about the puppet - we gotta be able to filter out ourselves IMO. Doubtful this has a high chance of happening. Lavi OTOH is plausible at least bc he's one of the few apparently readily available options with a thick CV.

I doubt we announce a new coach on a Friday afternoon the day before the Finals. I suspect it’ll be radio silence until the Cup is over.

Cup final has nothing to do with us naming a coach. I'd be shocked if we don't have a coach by next week.
Tell that to Bettman. I’ve had the impression/memory that the NHL is pretty strict about coaching hires during the cup.

Has there been one announced in the last few years during that week(s)?

Roy is a guy who absolutely cannot stand losing. It drives him literally mad.

He forced his way out of Montreal over one bad loss. He lost his shit playing for colorado, famous clip of him skating the puck up the ice in the post above. Lost it many times on the colorado bench. This man hates losing with his entire soul.

This team has many players who could use a shot of that flowing through them.

We all saw it. No compete in big games. Disgusted so many of us.

Maybe Roys passion is his downfall, and maybe this team never wins a cup with him as coach. I dont know. But Id rather watch a team tear itself apart to the last whistle trying to win a game over the shameful disgrace we saw in games 4,5&7 against NJ. Any day of the f***ing week.

Nitpicking here, but it was more because Tremblay left him in for 9 goals by the mid mark of the 2nd period.

Should have been pulled between 1st and 2nd period after being outscored 5-1.

This all happened on home ice.

It was embarrassing and Tremblay was an asshole for doing it.

Imagine any of our coaches during Hanks tenure leaving him in for 9 goals??

It's disrespectful.

Man, we botched it. Coach Carbs absolutely crushed his debut interview with the Junks. I'm so jelly.

just as a side, didn't Roy and Tremblay have some issues beforehand with that being the breaking point?
