i think this was the position 18 months ago,
and i love Robertson's game,
but from day 1 w NYR, Jones has shown more readiness, and all-round game, than maybe was anticipated

i hope they don't make decisions on the young D depth too soon,
a couple injuries at once, and they'll need all hands

I think one of Jones/Lundkvist goes in a trade and they head into camp with Jones/Robertson/veteran 7th D competing for the final D spot

Just in my limited viewing, Jones was so much more noticeable than Lundy. However, I think it is hard to win with too many small guys on the back-end. Robertson, long-term, is what the team needs. If Jones were just large enough to be 5'11" and 190, and was able to be "physical enough", I would love to keep him. Ultimately, he might be too small for the Rangers to keep, but will probably be a player that does have a Pionk+ type of career.

I know a lot of folks are worried about the durability of Jones and they might be right, but I love dmen who make good, quick decisions, and that seems to be his best asset.

I read Sykora would prefer to play at Nitra for one more season. Let the kid decide where he wants to play next season.

I'd have him play where we know he'll get the most ice time. Reps, training, and improvements is what he will need. Ex. If he likes the PK, best he is on the team that will use him there.

Only problem is that Medicine Hat is a wreck right now. Might get traded at deadline and get valuable playoff time with a good team if he does well.

Robertson is who the Rangers envision playing with Schneider long-term. Not Jones. Not Lundkvist. Size and skating ability are what succeed in the playoffs
I think there is a decent chance things turn out that way. Breaking in a smallish puck mover with defensive issues on your bottom pair with limited offensive situation opportunities is not the greatest way to go…..and Schneider his most likely defense partner is still kind of raw himself and this is not quite the retooling/rebuilding Rangers anymore even if there are a bunch of younger players. The idea is to build off the success of last season not live with the rookie mistakes of players who aren’t quite ready. Robertson is bigger and stronger than both Zac and Nils. He’s also more stay at home minded which is more what I’d look for in a bottom 6 defenseman.

Breaking in a smallish PMD with bottom pair/ pp2 minutes is exactly how you want to do it.

Jones is the most ready of the trio of Robertson, Nils and himself. Maybe that changes over the summer but based off of what they've done so far in their NA careers, it isn't really close. I'm sure the Rangers would love it if Robertson were the guy to play next to Schneider, But hes got a lonng way to go.

Some of the questions from these people. "And so you're signed with the Rangers now?" Durrr. "Why sign now, why was now the time?" Maybe because if he didn't sign now the Rangers would have lost his rights.

I don't expect these guys to be experts about random kids we drafted several years ago, but come on.
After this interview Rangers pulled the plug and signed 2 UFA goalies?

I still think he should go back to juniors. He played like what is it now, 3-4 weeks ago? A short time off, development camp, then the WJSS preparing for the WJC, after that Traverse (?) and Camp.

When is he supposed to train? I rather see him in the OHL, he won’t be scared of like doing squats on Sunday night because he got a game on Wednesday and wants to be 100%. Then comes the WJC. He will be on a good junior team that should play late again.

We need to be patient with these guys, my feeling is definitely that the longer we give kids to develop the better it is. KAM is a good example. He is obviously a mega talent that should have gone top 5-10 in his draft year, but if he had and we would have rushed him to the NHL at 18, his development path to date would just be corned with so much more adversity. Right? Instead he got to work at his game, develop himself. Not an overly tough schedule.

Like when a kid shows up for his first real pro season, you want him to feel that he is in excellent shape, have done everything possible. You want him to feel that he got a special jump when he is on the ice. How can Othman compete physically with like another winger who has been around a few years? That guy can set out a three month schedule and execute it. Othman get a few weeks and a ton of travel.
Valid points Ola, and many do make sense... of course, for the sake of development, your approach sounds good too.

In case anyone's interested:

Front row: Hugo Ollas, Oliver Tärnström, Brody Lamb, Riley Hughes, Ryder Korczak
Back row: Jayden Grubbe, Matt Rempe, Talyn Boyko, Adam Sýkora, Bryce McConnell-Barker, Hunter Skinner

Dylan Garand is sitting next to Korczak but you can only see his forehead on this picture haha

I have to say this prospect camp was really not covered much. And it’s a bummer there wasn’t more.

That said, I do hope Trivigno finds his way. Kid has a ton of heart. Is beloved by the UMass coaching staff. Just hope he has the motor and the mind to become the next Tyler Motte. He is certainly has the will.

One argument I’ll make for juniors over going back to Slovakia is that it will get him accustomed to the North American style of game sooner. We’ve seen it recently with kids like Andersson, Lundkvist, and Kakko where they’ve been playing in pro leagues overseas, only to have trouble adjusting to pro hockey in NA. Even though Laf has struggled with production, he was much more NHL ready than those other guys. Same thing with college players we’ve drafted or obtained - Fox, Miller, Schneider, Jones. They’ve all seemingly made an easier transition to pro hockey.

That’s not me saying he should definitely go to the CHL…just one reason why it might be more beneficial.

Canada has a announcer crew for a game of 16 year old HOPEFULS for the U17 National Team. Richest franchise in the NHL has a phone camera in the corner.
Eh. Not to say I wouldn't want to check in, but this is probably the most prospect-focused corner of the hockey internet, and how many people on his board would actually watch something streamed? 100? Maybe a few hundred more from outside HF? The NYR fans that would want to watch something like this are already diehards. Throwing the diehards a bone every once in a while is nice, but I've always found the reaction to NYR not covering these events better to be kind of misplaced.

Canadians, it's like a national identity thing for them.

I think the criticism is fair when compared to the Devils and Hurricanes to name some teams, that have significantly better coverage of their prospects.

Lindbom hurt during the scrimmage. Hopefully it's precautionary.

Story of Lindbom's career so far. My assessment of him coming in was "the best thing he did last year was to stay healthy." Doesn't sound like we're off to a good start. Dude scream Scott Stajcer to me--never really that good beyond the perceived upside, and always injured.

The criticism is always going to be "fair" because some people just expect us to have better coverage than everyone at everything all the time, because we're the Rangers and we're rich. And that's fine, if that's the expectation, I'm not going to tell you to expect otherwise.

My stance has always been that there's not much for the Rangers to gain besides engendering goodwill from a subset of people who would follow the team religiously even if the team literally came to our doors and kicked us in the dicks. For me, it's just not something to get upset over, and I'm one who follows the prospects (like you and most others here) more so than 99% of our fans.

It's just NBD to me. The team's social media presence has come a long way in a couple season and there's a lot more original content out there now than there used to be, even if it's terrible fluff that doesn't tell you anything new.

Also I don't want to be anything like NJD or especially CAR with respect to any off-ice sutff.
