The criticism is always going to be "fair" because some people just expect us to have better coverage than everyone at everything all the time, because we're the Rangers and we're rich. And that's fine, if that's the expectation, I'm not going to tell you to expect otherwise.

My stance has always been that there's not much for the Rangers to gain besides engendering goodwill from a subset of people who would follow the team religiously even if the team literally came to our doors and kicked us in the dicks. For me, it's just not something to get upset over, and I'm one who follows the prospects (like you and most others here) more so than 99% of our fans.

It's just NBD to me. The team's social media presence has come a long way in a couple season and there's a lot more original content out there now than there used to be, even if it's terrible fluff that doesn't tell you anything new.

Also I don't want to be anything like NJD or especially CAR with respect to any off-ice sutff.

Yes, there have been massive improvements in terms of social media. I understand why the Rangers don't go as far as other teams, partly because they don't have to, and partly because of, what you explained, not wanting to upset the fans who are happy with the coverage already.

It's just frustrating that we went through a rebuild, with 2 lottery wins, and all we got was a 5 second video of Kakko saying "It's a nice city"

It is what it is.

Professional hockey begins and ends with us fans.
I believe that NHL teams need a cold slap in the face to be reminded of that. Season ticket holder’s, walk-up fans, concession purchases, team merchandise purchases and revenue from advertisements both at the arena and on television.
We as fans should be the first group catered too. Without us they are all unemployed in the field they love.
It’s not much to ask that an unpaid intern to be at the non game events filming, or asking players and coaches questions.
You may not want or care to watch it, but at least you will have the option if you do.

Eh. Not to say I wouldn't want to check in, but this is probably the most prospect-focused corner of the hockey internet, and how many people on his board would actually watch something streamed? 100? Maybe a few hundred more from outside HF? The NYR fans that would want to watch something like this are already diehards. Throwing the diehards a bone every once in a while is nice, but I've always found the reaction to NYR not covering these events better to be kind of misplaced.

Canadians, it's like a national identity thing for them.
While I understand this argument, I can't say I can agree with it. I was born and raised in San Jose and since have moved to Raleigh. Both the Sharks and Canes put in a significant amount of effort covering their prospects and engaging the fans with up and coming players. The Sharks go so far as to have a prospects game at the Tank. There is plenty of fan interest. Because of this, even casual fans of the teams, such as my coworkers right now, know about the prospects coming up and will even mention them as possibilities for future rosters, like we do here. I know this is anecdotal, but its 2 out of 2 cities I've lived in with a hockey team.

I'm not upset, I am disappointed. Disappointed in the fact that the team can provide so little to its paying customers while its competitors continue to do more. More teams are providing more coverage every year and the Rangers are almost going backwards, giving us less access. If we were a prospect factory that churned out great player after great player, maybe an argument could be made that they don't want to reveal their secret. However, the truth is we never produce great players and if anything, our system is an example of what not to do. Hopefully, that is changing under the new FO.

The NBA has not been hurt financially from the expansion of its coverage for young up and coming players. The fans want to know and learn. There is always money in it, especially at this time of the year when the MLB is playing meaningless game number 102 and there is no NFL or NBA. (Besides Summer League)

I mean, the website doesn't even have a development camp update past the roster announcement. Haha

The AHL is another issue I have with the league, but that is for another time.

For sure, that’s a legit best on best tourney though.

The chance to see Hunter Skinner’s standout scrimmage in July against a bunch of kids? Yawn.
Exactly, especially considering you're only getting maybe 20-30min of a 5v5 scrimmage. If they want to improve the coverage, focus more on the off-ice stuff with them to get fans more familiar with who they are. Some clips of broken hockey isn't really enticing and is multiple tiers below something even like Traverse City

HFD is great for someone like Bobby T, Karl Henriksson and co.

But it’s like Bobby says in this interview. ‘I was there 3-4 weeks, we didn’t practice much, many games and long road trips’.

It’s not a place you develop your skills at. Players shouldn’t be moved there until they are more or less done developing.

Love Bobby T.

HFD could be pretty puck skilled next season. Karl H should establish himself there in the top 9. Gustav Rydahl. Pajunniemi. Khodorenko.

We’ve been hearing this for years. The (likely) reality of the situation is that they’ll be playing the skilled guys with NHL potential lower in the lineup than some of the AHL lifers, if not outright scratching them from the lineup.

Sounds like Cuylle and Trivigno are gonna get some long hard looks in preseason to make the 4th line.

First call up kind of guys this season. Sounds better than what Lettieri offered.

i dunno, doesn't really sound like that to me
just the usual "looking forward to seeing everybody in Camp"

there aren't really roster openings at F
(already got Blais, Krav, Hunt, Reeves, Carpenter, Gauthier behind the 8 most proven names)

and other guys just as likely to be called up ahead of them - Rydahl, Brodz, Getts, Paju

guys like these, with only a few weeks each of AHL experience,
should be at AHL to start the season, and very, very likely will be.
And that's fine.
Let them be most ready when the auditions come.

I am really excited about Trivigno but let's not forget that he's 23 and going up against kids 4-5 years younger in prospect camp. Pre-season will be much more indicative but early returns look hopeful.

He has had some very positive reviews thus far. I get that he is 23, but he is a smaller dude amongst most players anyway, so not sure how much his age is really helping him there haha

Just don’t see Gauthier and Hajek sticking around this year. If the Rangers can’t move them they’ll be on the waiver wire to another team or to Hartford. Neither played much down the stretch and neither got a sniff in the playoffs…..and neither was really missed by anybody. Gauthier got much more chance in the regular season but in no way did he cement a spot. They’re both still young and they both IMO could use a change of scenery. With the Rangers they’re essentially cooked. Their best chance to become NHL players is with weaker to mediocre teams. The Rangers need guys who can really fit into bottom 6 and bottom pairing roles not shit you throw against the wall and hope it works. There is not enough there there with either of these guys.

Trivigno is very interesting. A 5’8 guy who plays like he’s 6’1.….and he’s got good wheels and hands and a lot of determination. What’s not to like? Might be our Yanne Gourde.

You answered your question within your statement. What's not to like? Well he's 5'8 and what 150lbs? Its easy to play like 6'1 when everyone else is 170 lbs but he wont be doing that in the NHL any time soon. Cuylle or Berard are the most likely guys imo and if we're looking for bottom 6 mins it probably should be Cuylle.

Well, Trivigno played college. Many of the kids playing big minutes in college have frames that are much closer to men than junior hockey. But point taken. He's going to have show that his speed, tenacity and brain are NHL worthy.

The other thing is -- college hockey. Especially a program like UMass is much closer structurally to the NHL than vast majority of junior hockey. So, he likely has a leg up in positioning. Even from the very brief clips posted from the scrimmage today, you could tell he had a better grasp on the spots he needed to get to without the puck. And he wasted no time in getting there. I watched him briefly in the HFD at the end of last season and he didn't seem fazed by the pro game. He seemed to know where to be. And he had limited practice with the team. The hope is, once he gets more used to the AHL level, he can go from being in the right spots to using his motor to have a big impact every shift. As a forward in the A, that's really the number one way to set yourself apart and rise up the ranks. Can you have a big impact with your speed and your mind? Are you reliable?

Right now, hes's likely closer to Greco or Pajuniemi than he is to Motte. A bunch of that is his frame. He just doesn't have the mass that Tyler Motte has. The question remains can he play a Motte style game in a Zuccarrello+ frame? Time will tell. But this is the biggest reason he went undrafted. His heart though is huge. And I would argue, he's got the mind. I'm hopeful. But we'll see.
