i dunno, doesn't really sound like that to me
just the usual "looking forward to seeing everybody in Camp"

there aren't really roster openings at F
(already got Blais, Krav, Hunt, Reeves, Carpenter, Gauthier behind the 8 most proven names)

and other guys just as likely to be called up ahead of them - Rydahl, Brodz, Getts, Paju

guys like these, with only a few weeks each of AHL experience,
should be at AHL to start the season, and very, very likely will be.
And that's fine.
Let them be most ready when the auditions come.

in the sense of you cant put much stock in dev camp performances re significantly changing odds of making the team id agree. its good to hear about guys showing out, but its the middle of summer and a muddle of quality nhl prospects and fillers.

that said, i do think trivigno especially has a chance to force a roster spot. you may be spot on that theres nothing special that went on - i mean i cant say its my expectation - but if trivignos speed and aggression getting to pucks, and pressuring/closing on guys to create puck battles translates to main camp hes got a real shot. we need a sparkplug and would mitigate losing motte. i think its a pretty easy decision to dump gauthier/hunt or even carpenter if you can add that kinda player. im not saying he is that player, just that my takeaway was he did enough to make me think theres a chance. also a very real chance he tops out at the ahl level. staying glass half full there.

cuylle i think spends some time in the ahl, but i expect to see this year whether its spot duty or a full time callup at some point. other than that no real takeaways other than love what i heard about berards showing. only other thing i noticed was while i have no read/evaluation of his game, im sold on garand just seeing him. kid has a clean look with the pads, not some stupid colorfilled shapes overload - thats an nhl tender look / stance.

You answered your question within your statement. What's not to like? Well he's 5'8 and what 150lbs? Its easy to play like 6'1 when everyone else is 170 lbs but he wont be doing that in the NHL any time soon. Cuylle or Berard are the most likely guys imo and if we're looking for bottom 6 mins it probably should be Cuylle.

Berard and Trivigno are about the same size and carbon copies of each other and Trivigno is ahead of Berard right now if only by virtue of being signed already. It remains to be seen how either will turn out but I'd say that both have what it takes to be top 9 NHL players in time. Trivigno has a chip on his shoulder and it ain't easy for a little guys but there are exceptions like St. Louis (undrafted), DeBrincat, Zuccarello (undrafted). There was also at one time a guy with a major chip on his shoulder Theo Fleury (late draft pick) who also played like he was 6'1....ran around, hit very hard, scored goals and was a notorious asshole to play against. Whether either Berard or Trivigno can reach as high as the above names may seem a reach right now but they are also skilled players....so again we'll see.

They said the same about DeBrincat, and Kucherov, and Panarin, and Zuccarello, and St Louis, and Johnny Gaudreau, and Cam Atkinson.

Size isn't as important as people make it out to be. If Trivigno doesn't make the NHL, it won't be because of his size, it'll be because he's not good enough.

I don’t think size per se is ever a problem — it’s basically impossible to hit someone that he like 6-8 inches shorter than you — but if you are too small, it’s really hard to have a top speed that makes a difference.

It’s like race horses, they are one size, not 10 different sizes. Too big or too small they don’t stand a chance.
