Rangers Development Camp '23

As a Ranger fan who had season tickets for 25 years despite living all over the country, I will tell you flat out that he Rangers do not treat fans anywhere remotely as well as other teams. And it does matter…it matters a lot. I’ve also had season tickets to four other NHL teams at various times and all have attributes that would serve the Rangers well.

i was a STH for some years. we never had a lot, and it got somehow less and less over the years. Then see other teams give their STHs things like jerseys, skating with the team, auto-signing opportunities with ALL players, etc, etc...

For the rangers: one year, we got a paint bucket with some stickers and some candy in it. That was it.

They are brutal. My parents, then i took them over, had tickets since 2000, i was on the price break row for 5 or so years, i asked every year to move back a few rows so i wasnt paying $40-50 a seat more every game than the guy behind me. They basically told me the next year they would make it happen, the next year came and i had once again a new rep who said that there was not going to happen. I cancelled my tickets and never looked back. They didnt even care. Basically said “ok bye” after being a STHer for 19 years. They dont give 2 shits about the fans.

Now i’ll just buy a few games a season, a few hours before the the game and get good deals on seats.

Anything would be nice. How about a quick writeup about the scrimmage today on who scored, stood out and why. Not asking for the world.
Wait, are you saying, you don't prefer pouring over these super borning prospect interviews as if they're the zapruder film?

I mean, I guess it's not a blow by blow account of the game. He does post updates on twitter as the scrimmage goes along, but it's just writers standing near the glass trying to get a sense of what's going on

It's so sad comparing the Montreal media to ours. Need a full rebuild with a quickness.

I wouldn't go that far. B/c they're just straight up crazy. I'd love a Michael Russo (the Wild beat reporter on The Athletic though)

I live in LA and prefer going all the way out to Anaheim to see Ducks games because the customer service and family friendly atmosphere is top notch. Kings aren't bad but Ducks just go above and beyond. A few years back I went to Ducks/Rangers game and my son and I were going to the elevator to get to our not so close seats and some rep just walked up to my son and gave him a pack of Ducks hockey cards. It wasn't hockey card night. He wasn't even wearing Ducks gear. They just care about creating fans. It's the little things.

Kings run a program in LA that is a very cheap intro hockey clinic. Maybe 100-200 bucks. As part of the package, every kid gets a free jersey/socks and full equipment and skates. That's like a $500 giveaway per child. (They were legit skates). I was quite jealous. By comparison when I started playing hockey, my parents knew nothing of the sport and couldn't believe how pricey everything was. Even back then, it was like a grand just to start between the equipment and lessons and house league. Legit barrier to entry.

In any case, if I lived in NYC still I probably wouldn't go to hardly any games. Tickets to 1 of 82 game are kinda ridiculous nowadays and almost never worth it. Always some excuse why the team ends up playing passionless or like dog poo. "oh, this is the first game off a long trip." "Oh, they've got a bunch of injuries." "It's the 5th game in 8 days...." Getting to a very exciting regular season game that's worth the 300-400 bucks the whole experience costs is like playing the lottery.
The Coyotes have a similar program in Arizona. My grandson was completely outfitted for $50 plus got several on ice training sessions. Taylor Pyatt was one of his coaches.

Rangers legend Derek Armstrong ran this program. Plus there’s another program in the valley that’s far more serious which is run by another Rangers legend, Alex Frolov. Nice dude.

Its been close to a decade now since i've spent a dime on anything Rangers or NHL. I don't even pay for the games i watch online.

They've gotten enough out of me.

As annoying as it is to read this, I am at least glad I am not the only one noticing this behaviour by the Rangers org.

Also, I would like to clarify that I don't consider the Rangers team and Rangers organisation the same thing. I love the New York Rangers team, and will support them for the rest of my life. The Rangers organisation can kiss my ass.

It all starts at the top of ownership, we all know who that is and he's not going to change (I doubt he the capability to anyway). He doesn't have any incentive to change, the seats are sold regardless if there are people in them. He's a petulant, petty, jock-sniffing bleep.

I don't know what it's like at Knicks games; if the fans are treated any better. The hockey/NHL mentality of growing the game/marketing is telling people what time the game starts. The basketball/NBA people are more proactive in this regard; they get the idea that the game is entertainment, not some cash cow/ATM for the owner(s). The entertainment may not be for everyone, especially the older fans, but it's appealing for the younger generation, and that's what teams are counting on; those fans become season ticket holders some day.

I know the hockey and basketball teams are run by the same person, but the Rangers should take some of the responsibility for this too. They need to convince the owner that being more proacitve in these areas and being more fan friendly will benefit them in the short and long run. Stop being so short-sighted and small-minded. It's New York City; people have other options for their entertainment dollar.
