Rangers Development Camp '23

what are the chances Sykora can be this generations Hagelin? Berard a poor mans Callahan?

how far is he from the NHL? whole year in Hartford? emergency call up?

Hartford will most likely have Korcszak, Othmann, Sykora and Berard. Maybe Cuylle.

It seems like a lot of depth pieces are finally arriving..... just in time for our cap crunch..

Frankly, I think it would be very good for all parties if Othmann, Cuylle, Sykora, and Jones start this season in Hartford together. It’s a long season, there will be injuries and underwhelming vets, so organizational depth is a good thing.
I think Cuylle may be the only one that might make the team out of camp. With the signing of Gustaffson, it was a forgone conclusion in my mind Jones was AHL bound.

It will take an absurd training camp for on of the forwards to make it. Safe route would be to give the vets 15-20 games then re-evaluate... unless of course it's blatantly obvious at camp, that some kid greatly outshines a vet.

I might actually subscribe to watch Hartford games this season.... hopefully they improved their streaming.

Jones is going to be in the NHL in some capacity. He will get claimed on waivers.

then he's gonna get dragged around like Hajek.

I dont pretend to know how waivers works but isn't he on Hartfords Roster? If he gets called up then he cant go back down?

Im not an expert but waivers don't start until teams start cutting down their roster at the end of camp. Jones should make the team as a 6/7, he's got nothing left to prove in the AHL anyway. The next step in his development is practicing and playing at the NHL level. Injuries are going to happen, and he will get chances to play.

he should but for the reason you just stated, he'd be sent down.

Once he gets called up, he's Hajek 2.0 or he flourishes

The Jones topic got interesting w signing 2 vet D.
If no one injured in camp,
unless they keep 8 D,
one of Mackey, Jones or Gus
will need to be waived

IDK he signed a 1 way NHL deal so I think he's going to be on the roster. Mollie (grain of salt obviously) also said the Rangers plan to have him in the majors.

I also think there is a definite possibility he gets traded for a forward in a similar roster position around the end of camp if the competition between him, Mackey and Robertson is close. No one is claiming Harpur so I fully expect him to be in HFD.

Any player on an NHL contract that is subject to waivers must clear waivers before being sent down. Being in the AHL as of the prior season is irrelevant.

Maybe they waive Harpur and keep Jones so as not to lose him, or maybe we carry 8 dmen and 12 forwards.

then he's gonna have to impress or be dragged around.

Maybe better to work with this coaching staff than Hartford?

No. During the off-season there is no Wolf Pack or Rangers roster. What you see on sites like Capfriendly is just a projection.

Off-season cap is calculated based on a couple things:

- Players on 1-way deals count towards the cap 100%
- Players on 2-way deals count towards the cap for the percentage of days they spent on the roster last season
- Players on 2-way deals signed this summer don't count at all

Right now, Jones counts towards the off-season cap for $812,500

then he's gonna have to impress or be dragged around.

no way jones is allowed to be dragged around. someone will immediately snap him up on waivers, he's still got legitimate value as a prospect, probably half the league would make a claim. if the rangers aren't going to play him they'll at least move him for an asset. he won't be given away for nothing, i don't think even this org is capable of that.

If the Rangers trade potentially a decade of Jones for 1 year of 30+ year old Gustafsson, that'd be classic dumb Rangers. Trade the next Ryan Ellis in his early 20s so that Gustafsson in his early 30s can play for one year.

Insanity.

Laviolette had both. He had a 23-24 year old Ellis that had yet to break out in the NHL and developed him into prime Ellis that scored 270 points in his 10 years in NSH. Let's hope he recognizes the smart decision here. Rangers need a player like Jones. Quick on the transition. Moves the puck. Is creative with the puck in the offensive zone. Someone who is cheap now and can grow into a PP QB in the event Fox gets injured. Someone who can QB the 2nd PP unit when Fox is healthy. There is no one on the roster that can QB a PP other than Fox and Jones. Trouba was absolutely atrocious on PP2. We have enough meaty defensemen on the roster. We can afford to pair a Jones with Trouba and let him do his thing with the puck. With a more structured D zone hopefully with this coaching staff, Jones could thrive. Pair him with Trouba at even strength. Make him the QB of PP2.

Not of fan of holding on to prospects who you constantly bury under retreads.
It's obvious the organization doesn't wanna put a midget on the 3rd pair.
So be it. Trade the guy already.

Bootlicker mentality. They think criticising your favourite team makes you a "fake fan" or something. We aren't asking for unreasonable things here. All I want is for them to do what other teams are doing. They don't have to invent new shit, be pioneers or anything. Just do what others are doing and a lot of fans will be a lot happier.

But no. They act like they are royalty. Want to talk about entitlement? The Rangers org is entitled.
The Rangers seem to leave the bulk of the content creation to the beat reporters. Good on Vince, but the rangers could easily do more.

sykora looks like fox to me

Nothing has been confirmed with Sykora. It’s basically WHL, AHL, or back to Europe. He would be one of the youngest players if he plays in the AHL, i’m not so keen on that. Hoping he ends up in the WHL to continue to work on his offensive skills in the smaller rink. If he’s in the AHL it will stunt his offense.
Totally agree on Sykora staying closer to home for another year. He appears tough mentally and highly motivated. But he really hasn’t faced any adversity yet in his career, has he? I’d rather he grow a bit more in his comfort zone. Do no harm. No need to rush him.

The funny thing is that it wouldn’t take all that much to create a more fan friendly situation. They just don’t need to go down that road so they don’t.
Totally agree. Especially on this point.
