He absolutely got Avery'd. He got a penalty when another guy started the fight after he cleanly checked a Cap in which he drew a penalty. He also got the only penalty when he was engaged with somebody who should have clearly received a penalty as well. Refs sucked tonight which should be no surprise.

They suck because their coordinate the game like WWE officials instead of calling it.

We always kinda knew this, I guess, but ever since that Nashville audio leaked, it's so much more obvious to me than I ever realized before.

This is a huge concern and why I really was opposed to signing him long term. I just don't believe in paying that much money to a guy who is supposed to be a #1 center but can't push play in a positive direction.
If all goes to plan then Lafreniere or Kakko are driving play on a line with Zibanejad. Zib is being paid the big bucks to put away the plays that the line drivers manufacture.

One thing's for certain. If this game was on MSG, Homer Joe would've given every excuse in the book on why they got caved in.
He has an excuse for every single goal the Rangers give up. He'd look for a deflection to excuse an empty net goal against. Excuses on top of excuses.

In the last 3 years he has scored 199 points in 195 games. That's pretty good for a guy that can't push the play in a positive direction.

The issue with Zibanejad's line so far is that they just have no cohesion yet. Guys go in to forecheck and don't know where they're going with the puck, they throw passes to where no one is, etc. Just real lack of puck support I guess

This needs to happen tomorrow:

Igor in for Georgiev
Lundkvist in for Tinordi
Gauthier in for Hunt

It's only one game but we blew chunks

I don’t have much faith in Gauthier being a part of any solution for anything with this team.

Very early obviously, but I don't know if I can envision them making the playoffs if this is the long-term bottom 4 D. It's not NHL-caliber.

The Rangers seem to have convinced themselves that Lindgren-Fox and Miller-Trouba are perfect combinations, but we'll see what direction the new coach goes in as things wear on.

Why is Tinordi here? I expected him to be #8 coming in. I'm very surprised and a bit disappointed that we had all those young D going for one spot and f***ing Tinordi got it somehow.

If Miller-Trouba is not NHL caliber there are big problems.

I actually have no issue whatsoever with Gallant's presser. He's not going to crap on Georgiev in his first post-game press conference as head coach so his comments on that are whatever. Everything else he said was spot on.

Gallant is going to deflect blame from individuals and talk about how the team needs to be better as a whole. It’s why his players love him. Now we need to see him make the right lineup changes

Outside of the Fox and Lindgren we have no defensemen on the current roster. Trouba is overhyped trash. Miller is way too soft. Send him to the AHL. Nemeth and Tinordi aren't even ECHL caliber.
Kreider is horrible. I think we've seen his peak and we are watching him fall off of a steep cliff. His contract will be talked about in the likes of Lucic maybe even Redden.
Georgiev doesn't belong in a professional hockey league.

I love Blais. Liked what i saw from Kakko and even Lafs physicality. Loved Chytil. Like Reaves.
The rest of the team was just there I guess.

I’m just going to put this out there, how is it that this is like the third year in a row that our bottom pair defenders “aren’t NHL caliber”? First Staal, Smith and Shattenkirk were too washed up to be NHL caliber, then Johnson and Hajek were, now Nemeth and Tinordi are.

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say maybe this is just what average third pair defensemen look like and maybe the bigger issue is that we shipped out too much of our skilled depth and now no one can sustain any f***ing offense.

Most team's bottom pair sucks.

The big problem for us right now is that our second pair sucks.

The lines I was hoping to come out of preseason was:

Laf-Zib-Kap
Pan-Chytil-Krav/Blais
Krei-Goodrow-Krav/Blais/Gaut
Hunt-Rooney-Reaves/Blais/Gaut

Instead, we got what we got tonight. Only the 1st game though. Adjustments can and will be made. It can only get better...

Next game I’d like to see:

Laf - Z - KK
Bread - Strome - Blais
Kreider - Chytil - Goodrow
Hunt - Rooney - Gauthier
Lindgren - Fox
Miller - Trouba
Nemeth - Lundkvist

And taking a longer view, I wouldn’t mind swapping Miller to the AHL for Jones to play with Trouba.

I think if Gallant wants to call Quinn for some quick tips, Quinn would be willing to answer the call.

Tinordi is trash and will not see much time unless injuries. Nemeth with either Lundkvist or Jones would be a fine 3rd pairing. What skilled depth did we ship out besides Buch who was always the odd man out because we weren't paying him 6 mil. Blais has been very good so far and has shown some skill. Hopefully we can keep Kravs also.
