Full credit to the Canes, they completely dominated us, but my god that was hard to watch at times. GOt absolutely nothing going 5v5 and our premier forwards were invisible for 85% of the game.
Shows that we are at least a step behind the true favourites for the cup. I can't see us getting 4 wins against the Canes as currently constructed.

4th line tried, Goodrow tried, I liked Schneider's game. Every else ranged from 'meh' to 'sucked'. Nemeth needs to sat in favour of someone younger/better.

Kids mostly invisible again (most memorable moment between KK, Laf and Chytil was probably Laf's penalty). Schneider shouldn't look more dangerous in the o-zone than all 3 of them combined.
We are getting to the weird spot where there doesn't appear to have been any improvement/development to their games through half a season. If the plan is to legitimately compete in the small window where we've got Panarin and Shesty locked up along with low-cap hit youth, then we really need to see something soon

I said at the start of the season that the vets need to integrate the kids of the team is to have success. I don't see any chemistry whatsoever between the vets and the kids, and the kids are talented there is no doubt about that. Something is very wrong somewhere.

What is this team about? Does it want to build around players pushing 30 or does it want to be a rebuilding team that needs more time to develop?

I feel like when the Avalanche steamrolled us twice we never once were able to match their intensity and their speed and in this game there were times where we did match the canes and good things happened. I really hope this is the game where we finally realize to a man that we have to play more intensely. Because we are really talented and look scary when we get into that next gear that you need to win the cup. We are beating normal teams so easily now because we are talented. But you need a lot more to beat elite teams like this who do not relent on harrassing you and making you look stupid. These teams also know that we like to take it easy and they crank up the volume even more because I see them play against other teams and they dont play with that same intensity all the time.
Exactly. I didn’t see this one but my sense overall is there’s improvement and development. It’s just hard to get up onto that last summit. Replace Nemeth. Kakko and Lafreniere start playing aggressively. Might not be this season, but I’m still optimistic.

The Rangers are the worst team in the league at 5v5. I hate to say it but at this point in the season the odds they make a drastic turnaround is very low. Obviously some trades should help but there are huge problems structurally that aren't going to go away.
Yup, there is not magic player they trade for that is magically going to make them better 5v5. And these problems have been here LITERALLY all year.

It's built around vets, aka a half-assed rebuild.

A typical rebuild takes 5 years....what are we year 3? Its not done yet, far from it. Its why i was disappointed to see Gorton go because he was willing to finish it, i feel Sathers puppet is gonna do what happened in Philly when Hextall left and f it up.

I think the issue is that we didn’t bother getting anything for him when we had the chance. If he was really on his last strike, they should have moved him before it happened. I know it’s not an easy job but Gorton-JD, for all the good they being brought, were a day late and a dollar short on a few big issue items. Not saying those guys were awful, just a few regrets. At least that’s how i feel.
What's more annoying, they changed the FO and repeated the same thing with Kravtsov.

Vally basically saying country club time for Kakko and Laf. No stress or urgency boys

The rebuild is OVER - we Dolan canned the entire staff - it died.

We are making our push

No more rebuild talk

We didn't suck tonight, we got shellacked in every aspect of the game, against a team you have to go through in the Eastern Conference in the playoffs. In a 7 game series, the Canes beat us in 3.
It’s one game. We’ll see where the season series ends up. I think they’re a bad match up for us but I came into this season thinking we’d make the playoffs. That’s a win in my book. I also think Shesty and his puck play will help neutralize some of their forecheck. I also expect us to make some trades. Either way 2 of 4 points vs Toronto/Carolina. I’m happy. I don’t expect game in, game out dominance and 60 minute teeth caving sessions.
