I feel like when the Avalanche steamrolled us twice we never once were able to match their intensity and their speed and in this game there were times where we did match the canes and good things happened. I really hope this is the game where we finally realize to a man that we have to play more intensely. Because we are really talented and look scary when we get into that next gear that you need to win the cup. We are beating normal teams so easily now because we are talented. But you need a lot more to beat elite teams like this who do not relent on harrassing you and making you look stupid. These teams also know that we like to take it easy and they crank up the volume even more because I see them play against other teams and they dont play with that same intensity all the time.

Doesn't have to be so drastic. Hire a skills coach, hire a skating coach. Then hire a witch doctor to remove all the remaining Quinn lectures out of their brains.

Gallant implementing an actual transition system should help too, the kids don't seem to know what to do in the offensive zone other than give the puck to a dman and go stand in front of the net. Gallant has coached the East West out of the system, but now there is nothing there.

Shesterkin should've started but either way they're outclassed by Carolina. They need to make some serious improvements at 5v5 and learn how to keep up with teams like Carolina and Florida, you need to push the pace against them and stop ceding them so much ice out of respect/hesitation.

The good news is that it's January and not April. Whether the standings are fraudulent as a reflection of their play or not is irrelevant, they are where they are so they're most likely going to be a playoff team. Need to start improving soon so you're still not struggling against opponents like this come April and May. Plenty of time, but something needs to be shaken up soon. Whether it's a move to bring someone in or some lineup tweaks (which very much should happen) we'll see.

Kreider-Mika-Laf
Panarin-Strome-Kakko
Goodrow-Chytil-Hunt
McKegg-Rooney-Reaves

Should be the lines next game.

Fox leads all defensemen in assists.

DeAngelo is an excellent hockey player and I've never said otherwise, ever, but he wears Adam Fox pajamas to bed in every aspect of hockey.
I don't disagree with you. All I wanted to point out is that we miss a real good skater and hard shot back there. Miller has shown a little of it, but he has a ways to develop

Dude the Rangers are stacked at RD, DeAngelo was never going to be on the team past last season anyways. It just so happened that him being a gigantic asshole lead to him being removed from the team early
I think the issue is that we didn’t bother getting anything for him when we had the chance. If he was really on his last strike, they should have moved him before it happened. I know it’s not an easy job but Gorton-JD, for all the good they being brought, were a day late and a dollar short on a few big issue items. Not saying those guys were awful, just a few regrets. At least that’s how i feel.

Well said!

Love this. Level up. It's not a scrimmage.

You were predicting 0 points in those 2 games but we got 2. We sucked tonight. It is what it is. We’ve got work to do. Oh well.
We didn't suck tonight, we got shellacked in every aspect of the game, against a team you have to go through in the Eastern Conference in the playoffs. In a 7 game series, the Canes beat us in 3.

I think there's a lot going on here. Some of the players are stuck (Strome & Panarin) in between what THEY want to do & what the coach wants them to do, plus we don't have the team speed required to play a hard forechecking game that Gallant likes. We need more top 6 talent & an infusion of speed.

It is what it is. Awful or not (not saying you’re wrong) he makes a difference
Sure it does, one is probably a top-3 goalie in the world right now and one is just a maybe NHL-level goalie. But I really don't want to focus on goaltending with the Rangers. As long as it's decent, that should do. The objective is to minimize the need for the goalie to change the game every night. I don't want the situation to be such that we completely fall apart and can't compete if we don't get Vezina-calibre goaltending. Georgiev was decent enough tonight.
