Pre-Game Talk: Rangers at Leafs 7pm Mon, Oct 18th

Jones isn't far off from a dermott
Lundqvist is a Sandin comparable
Miller is a Lilijgren comparable

Jones has had pretty good showings and their fans do like him quite a bit. Now Ranger fans tend to overvalue any young player they have but him becoming a good bottom-pairing defender by the end of this season isn't a very difficult ask.

I'm saying collectively the three guys the rangers have is a similar level to the three the leafs have. We have a better more reliable top 4. While we don't have a fox, we have the next 3 best D

I don't see how a dimunitive 3rd round pick with no pro experience is comparable to Dermott, tbh.

Dermott's usage and role is that of a 5/6D who gets very easy competition and performs well. Dermott is 2015 draft class while Jones is in 2019, one was in the early 2nd and the other in the early 3rd. Both don't have the potential to be much more than 4/5D, with Dermott it's his lack of offensive game and puck-moving abilities with Jones it's probably his lack of physicality and defensive abilities. Both are flawed in a upper role on the team, but should/do(for Dermott) thrive in a reduced role on the team

Dermott is a good NHL dman.

Jones is just a dimutive prospect. Compare him this year to Menell, maybe.

He can carry it pretty well. Doesn't know what to do with it after.

Also, I feel like he's spent the majority of his NHL career deferring to his partners.

Pretty much what I think too. Dermott makes really bad decision with the puck and also bad pinches.
 
Holl back in so I expect a lot of grade A kill zone chances against us in our end ... Soup should be able to carry him with Muzzy .. we out skill and outscore Rangers in a shoot out type game

certainly a nice upgrade over the decent but much more limited dermott-bogo pair last year.

it is a bit weird, but i think you have to look at it from a management stand point. They've invested a lot of capital (draft picks, prospects, salary) into that Muzzin/Holl pairing so I'm assuming this is more of management/analytic decision in terms of Holl back in. I do think they need to play Liljegren but I rather see Dermott with Muzzin and then Sandin and Liljegren, I don't think Liljegren is a shut down guy. He needs sheltered minutes and allow him to get some o zone starts with Sandin and make plays

Actually we have no idea if K'Andre Miller is a better player until Liljegren actually gets a legitimate chance.
