Post-Game Talk: Rangers at Islanders 4/13/13

Cally isn't hurt, but my god is he frustrated. He was hitting more this game, and was great on the PK again, but in every zone, he COULD NOT get to the puck. It was always an extra foot out of reach, or 2 players between him and it. Some of it is bad luck, I think most of it is him "fighting it". A few good bounces, a bit of confidence, Cally will be fine.

Brass, I don't know. Until his pretty pass, completely unable to make a difference. Then again, this was a tough game for anyone to look good in.

Clowe-Richards-Boyle was terrible. I'm expecting more out of Richie and Clowe.

Some of the blame for our very poor offense has to go to the coach. Has anyone ever seen a worse power play unit than Boyle-Brassard-Richards-Girardi and whomever, unless they replaced one of them with Pyatt (why is he on the ice over Powe or Asham, BTW). And I thought Boyle was quite good in spots tonight, but whatever offensive line he is playing on has almost zero chance of scoring. I think Tortorella is wasting Hagelin's talents. He rushes up the ice, gets free, no one to pass to who can finish. I'd like to see him with Nash and Stepan.

To the people saying "OMG ISLANDERS DESERVED TO WIN WE'RE GOING NOWHERE", we're 4-1-1 in our last 6, the two losses being one goal games.

I'm pretty happy with the team right now. It's slowly coming together - and Henrik turning on god mode at just the right time.

Yeah, why all the hate when we win? So it wasn't the prettiest game we ever played, but the compete level was there and Hank finally closed the door completely, to use his words.

Agreed...mostly. I think this teams defensive zone and neutral zone play is going to get them in trouble, especially in the (if they make it)playoffs. They have work to do and not much time to put it together, that is for sure. When you look overall at how they have battled and played, I am also happy...but very worried about a first round exit if they do make the playoffs.

Also, everyone bugging out about how they didn't deserve to win, yada yada. Wake up, the Islanders are a good team. The Rangers battled hard and did get lucky, but at the end of the day they ended up with 2 points against a team that was 9-1-1 in the last 11 games before this. That aint bad.

There's a reason we pay the guy the most out of all goalies- he's the best. It's his job to do this, so I can't be mad when he does.

Plus, the first half of the game was actually not bad at all. First period was even, and then the Rangers dominated the first 12 minutes of the second. They got **** on from that point on, but it happens.

I don't know how many times the Islanders commentator called 16 Brassard by 19 Richards.

It caught me off guard a couple times because I was like "jeebus, Richards is crankin it up!' to find out 2-5 seconds later it was Brassard. Lol

Wow that kid Brassard is alright :)

Our PK was great tonight. I think if I'm Team USA I wanna have a PK unit with Stepan, Callahan and McDonagh on it :) No way Boyle makes the team but he's been great on the PK as well. Really turned around after that horrible stretch it had in March.

Guys,

I missed the game because of an early morning shift (started an hour ago). I see G-man scored and Brassard had a slick pass to put him in front of Nabokov, but how did they play? Rangers were outshot, but were they outplayed as well?

And how were Zucc and Brass Art?

Powe is great on the PK as well. I'd love to see him get a goal sometime this season lol.

The way that he was pressing, I thought he might get one tonight. Without any actual proof, I think somebody has asked Powe to elevate his game offensively. To be honest, I think it is fair to expect him to do more in terms of offensive threat, but yeah, he is a damned good penalty killer.

They were outworked. Isles played good enough to win but they didn't and we played bad enough to lose but we didn't. Hank was spectacular. PK was great PP was not.

The Rangers played pretty terrible, outside of the first 10 minutes. They stopped playing after that and Hank put the team on his back again.

Brassard and Zucc were both pretty bad/invisible, but Brassard made a nice pass to Girardi for the OT.

They dominated for large portions of the second period as well. Selective memory much? lol....and Whaaat? Brassard played very well. Played a physical game. It was an extremely tightly checked game. I thought Zucc was fine too...I don't remember him making any big mistakes if any. Were we watching the same game?

I think it's more that the Rangers were simply out played by a team that has really come together and plays very well together. The Rangers did not lack effort, they just could not connect two passes together with any consistency. It could be said that they hung in there very tough and just gutted out a win. Ugly bit still two points.

This was a playoff game folks.

I don't know about the Islanders board. Just referring to some friends of mine who are Islander fans complaining about it and using it as an excuse for the loss. I mean obv the Islanders outplayed us for most of the game and Lundqvist was great but it seems people never include that Lundqvist is a part of the team..and his play is part of our game. So if a team outplays us in terms of puck possession that doesn't mean they "outplay" us overall.

Is Lundqvist a part of the team? Absolutely. But the difference is that he isn't included in any gameplans or systems. He has one job to do on the ice, and if you have 20 other guys who are being outplayed and one who isn't, you were outplayed overall. He just happens to be playing a position that can have a huge impact on the game. If he has an off night and lets in 6 goals, you don't claim you got outplayed, you say that he had an off night and let in some soft ones.

It's a two way street.

As an Isles fan, I felt that the Isles dominated play for most of the game (outside the of the Rangers PP's). But I really enjoyed the game as a whole, even with the outcome. Got a point and got to see a truly exciting and meaningful game between these two for the first time in 6 years.

Sometimes teams steal games, other times they don't, it's all a part of the game so I'm not too bitter. And just as an FYI, since I've seen some posts on it, that slash at the end of regulation called on Okposo was a textbook slash so I'm not quite sure why any Isles fan would be pissed off at that.
