1)Girardi was already here long before the current regime took over. This would be a move to actively acquire an awful player.

2)Now it would be Girardi AND Fowler in the top 4.

i find it difficult to see the Rangers not buying out Girardi this summer or getting him to waive his NTC at the very least. I can't see Las Vegas drafting him. Kevin Klein, McIlrath, or Skjei will be better grabs if not one of our forwards.

Honestly I disagree with everyone about a Girardi buyout. It's crippling to have dead cap space for 8 years

Skjei is exempt. Girardi, McDonagh, and Staal are currently the three that would be protected as well as Skjei being exempt. Girardi would probably be asked to waive his NMC for the draft if he isn't traded or bought out by that point. They could use that last protection slot on a D acquired in this trade if they need to be protected while leaving McIlrath and Klein eligible to be selected. McIlrath may not even be on the team if they acquire another D anyway.

It would only be 6 years anyway as he has 3 years after this current season left.

Nah, because the guys that were scouting are directly related to talent acquisition and player development - not traditional pro-scouts. You wouldn't send Drury unless there was trade talk.
