Maybe. My initial reaction is it would have something to do with Vatanen after Gorton wasn't willing to the price for Shattenkirk. I haven't heard a lot of positives about Vatanen over the last year and the Ducks need cap space, so maybe he could get a nice price. The Rangers are also overflowing with middle-6/bottom-6 forwards...

Could be, we were rumored to trade for him when they were playing cat and mouse with Girardi over his contract a few years ago.

I'd like to trade Vesey for Montour. I think that would be a fair trade for both teams. I think Vesey's the logical odd man out of our top 9, unless they are serious about trading Nash or Zucc.

Maybe. I don't know if the value is perfect here but Miller for Vatanen makes a lot of sense for both teams. Also I can't see them trading Vesey after just signing him over the summer. I know it's a business but that would look really bad.

This is completely meaningless but I can't picture Cam Fowler in a Rangers uniform.

Don't think BM will trade a guy he just locked up to a 4 year deal. This is much different than the Hagelin situation. Vatanen has been a proven player in Anaheim for a few years now. It would look extremely bad on the organization.

yes they would. They desperately need Lindholm in lineup and have a couple prospect dmen that can be the new Vatanen

You don't know that. Sami struggling to start the season doesn't suddenly reverse how they think about him. Fowler is outplaying him right now, but GMs aren't that fickle.

Is this recent? I feel like I've heard more negatives than positives about Vatenen for a while now.

How much cap space do the Ducks have to open up to sign Lindholm?

The Rangers would be taking on just over 2 million in a deal centered around Miller for Vatanen which puts them right up against the cap with no wiggle room (maybe even just over). The Rangers would probably have to throw a player in just to give them some space (Tanner Glass' contract would be fantastic since he's eating up 500K in dead cap space by being in the minors).

If recent includes the World Cup. He was very underwhelming there, and in pre-season.

Sami has had his ups and downs, but he's always benefited from Fowler and Lindholm being ahead of him on the depth chart. That's always allowed him to be in a position to be relied on less defensively, and stretch his legs offensively. He even made big strides defensively last season.

But he just signed that new contract, that is going to be paying him almost $5m over 4 years. It actually is $5m for 3 of those 4 years. He needs to live up to that contract, and realistically, I think that means he needs to be even better, and with tougher responsibilities.

We're only talking about three games, though. I agree with Exit, that Murray isn't that fickle. If Vatanen is actually being discussed, I think there's more to it than the way he's started the season. Montour would certainly be part of that decision.
