I gotta be honest. The last two years has been fun with building up the prospect pool. But the last 5 or so years, the NYR vibe became very stale. From ‘10-‘15 was when I was extremely excited. But this is different. This season is going to be one of the most fun seasons to watch unfold. Between Kakko, Vitali, Fox, other second or third year players like Lias, Chytil, ADA, Georgie, Howden; seeing how they’ve expanded their games as they became more mature to the NHL. We have so many top tier young players that are NHL-ready and if not, pretty damn near ready to make a big impact. This is the most excited I’ve felt in well my 24 years, and in those years asides from when I was very young, we never had a young & upcoming, dynamic offensive core.

I can’t wait

Fair enough. I just think that Lindgren brings a lot to the table on the back end. Grit, physicality, takes the body. I know that in some way, those players have become out of fashion, but how long has this team been looking for a player like that. Even if it's on the bottom six pairing.

I agree. I can easily see a situation where Lindgren ends up on the roster. He plays a simple game, skates pretty well and plays with some snarl. Having a player like him in the lineup helps keep the team from getting pushed around.

I’m wondering why JD is giving this press conference and not Gorton

It's JD's team now.

JD was brought in to be the face and voice of the Rangers.. Sather was clearly quite detached the last several years; he probably was hanging on because he really wanted to prove everyone wrong and win one more Stanley Cup. Gorton became the voice of the Rangers because Sather wouldn't (or couldn't).
Gorton will get plenty of time with the pres--assuming he wants to be engaged with them.

I agree. Like I said then, he seems to know exactly what he needs to do to be effective and stays within those parameters. Important for a player to know that. And this team could use some snarl.

Funny I just posted a response to an earlier post of yours using same word. This team needs that kind of play--especially in front of the net.

Snarl is such a good word for it.

I actually think Gorton loves this. He never seems all that comfortable in front of a microphone. He's also so close to the action that it becomes difficult for him to parse certain situations. JD takes a lot of pressure off GMJG

really intrigued by what JD meant with Andersson transforming his body completely. Looking forward to the photos.

Yep, I agree. I give Gorton real credit for stepping up and filling the void--Sather never wanted to meet with the NY press unless he wanted to send a public message. However, Gorton never looked very comfortable doing it and sometimes could be rather confrontational.

JD is very smooth and obviously very comfortable communicating with everyone. But, he's not a front man, he was brought into the organization to run it. I think we're going to see a lot of him this season. It will be very nice to have real updates from the leaders of the organization. I was very tired of the Man Behind the Curtain (since about 2000 :D).

I honestly couldn’t care less about what number anyone wears. All the talk about what number looks right or should be for what kind of player is like another language to me.
Does my head in when I read other teams' boards. "Yada yada 14 should get more icetime than 9 yada yada 11-22-61 has been better than 38-7-15 tonight yada yada"

Yeah, I only fear that CBJ will sack Tortorella and that JD will override Gorts to bring him here.

Brandon Crawley's from my hometown, so if he makes a single nice play all preseason I'm gonna be here saying he deserves to make the team. Just a warning, want you to know what you're all up against

.....and grew up a Devils fan. I like Brandon though--he's got edge. In some ways he's like Lindgren--he gets under skins and looks for the big hit. That said I'd be surprised if he got into a preseason game. Same with Day. I don't think either are close enough to seriously competing for an NHL job. Reunanen, Hayek, Rykov and Lindgren I expect to fight it out for one LD position. Staal and Skjei will play in at least two games each. Morrow and Smith will probably get at least two. Maybe Geertsen will get a chance. We only have 6 games so the opportunities to play will be limited. 3LD positions x 6 = 18.

I'm still pinching myself that JD is back home. That "everything good Sammy?" at the end just made me feel 10 years old again. I can't effing wait for the season to start.
Know one is more overjoyed than me. Oh baby!

JD asked Sam "everything good Sammy?"cause Sam didn't ask one question at the interview.

Setting aside my love for this man, and the fact he has always been a Ranger at heart,... he has turned out to be one of the best Presidents in the NHL. He turned around two clubs in the short time he has been in this position.

Lindgren is very much a Quinn type of player. I think he makes it as the 7th D tbh.

He could . I’m hopinf Skjei 1, Staal 3 and Hajek does so well he gets 2nd pair minutes

Lindgren I see more as a 3rd pair guy but he’s a good team tough soldier. W the cap it’s hard to keep 8 D though

Its amazing, the organizations JD bossed over managed to win what one round in the POs over the 13 years he bossed over them! ;)

Seriously though, I have a problem with JD. The reason for it is that we have seen some madness in NY. The level of management we have experienced has in many instances been worse than what a fan-base should have to endure, post 94'. In principle -- all -- those disastrous performances by GMs to coaches have been a result of people living in the past, not adopting to the development of the game. Remember that the game of hockey and the NHL have developed tremendously fast from say 1979 to 2019.

The by far biggest mistake made around this franchise was that it didn't adopt to the trapping era. All teams in this league eventually adjusted but we didn't. You also had the Smith/Slats madness chasing names instead of building teams and what not. Everyone know that JD was a dreamer that wouldn't question any crazy ambition or approach from management. Then someone will lol and ask what was JD supposed to do etc etc etc. And he was of course not behind anything, didn't cause anything, but we all know that he didn't believe that he was watching by far the worst run organization in pro-sports -- which he was.

Then he goes on to STL and get zero results and accomplish nothing and then its CBJ and its just more of the same. He is on record being on board with bringing in John Tortorella, who is another one who was great but got caught in what worked yesterday and who sets back that organization years at the time focusing on the wrong things.

I cannot say that I know JD will do a bad job in NY. He could end up doing a great job. But I am not convinced that he won't do a horrible job. And I would have liked it a lot more if we would have brought in someone who had displayed that he understood the developing nature of the game in a way Glen Sather for example did not. JMHO.

I just don’t see how Nieves or Andersson stay on the main roster with jeff’s Lack of movement this summer. Just don’t see roster spots for them at all. Not until he finally starts moving out some bodies. Brooks named them today and frankly they all need to be gone by the deadline.

Kreider
Namestnikov
Strome
Fast

At least 2 of which should have been moved before we ever got to camp. Even if Lias has a good camp there’s literally no spot for him assuming the coaches like Howden over him and they do.

It’s the second summer in a row we did not do a good enough job moving pending free agents out and we only got away with it this past year because we won the draft lottery. But not moving guys out over the summer like zucc hurt their value on the market and kept us out of the bottom 5 of the draft.
