I hope the first photo released is a picture of the rock with Andersson's head photoshopped on it.

The odds aren't in his favor long-term. However he's pretty much ready, whereas we know Miller and Robertson won't be here, leaving Reunanen (who probably leaves for this season), Hajek, and Rykov. I'm not sold on Rykov being totally ready. Hajek? Maybe. But Lindgren could win a spot this year, and a lot can change in one year's time. Some of these D will have to be moved eventually. It's not always the lowest-upside guys that get traded; the other guys have potentially more value.

No one really thought Sauer was in the long term plans until he got a chance and ran with it. He might still be here of not for the injuries.

Marc Staal would still be here if it wasn't for the eye injury. Oh, wait...

Yeah DeAngelo is not going to be here beyond this season.

I like him but I just don't see him as part of the future... he's too much of a wildcard and with how stacked our D prospect pool is we can almost afford to let him go. I think he got a little too hyped up last season because he was the only real bright spot on D. We'll see though

All jokes aside, that's partly my point. Staal was a huge part of our defensive core, and until the injury, there wasn't really any reason to think he wouldn't be for at least another half-decade. We can write off Lindgren, but then Miller could tear all the tendons in his knee and never recover and Rykov could randomly decide to go back to Russia. Hajek could struggle, and then we're pinning our hope on Robertson and Reunanen to fill the left after Staal is gone. Or we move Skjei, etc. Lots can change. So Lindgren is definitely a dark horse, but his near-NHL readiness could help him this year and in turn down the road.

I still believe he ends up with another organization, but I don't think it's impossible that he carves out a spot here moving forward. He's a guy that Quinn will like.

I'm not going to write off anyone. Like you said, anything can happen. Having a stacked pool and letting them battle it out is a good problem to have. I like Lindgren. And I don't believe guys like Rykov and Miller can step right in at the NHL level.

I'm talking about long term.

He’s not really wrong. On a playoff team he doesn't sniff a roster spot unless of injuries.

His speed alone can create offense and he plays a very reliable north south (hitting) game. He's also consistent with assignment on the PK and can look to set up someone with his vision on the rush. IMO, he's a very good bottom-6er and is well worthy of his extension with NYR. Now he has to opportunity to show he belongs there. Not to mention he's a pretty solid AHLer, too.

I don't see how that is "awful"....
