I'm glad that a small sample size is making you happier instead of a larger, more meaningful body of work that is more representative of his actual talent.

Apparently he's some untouchable Messiah because he was...*checks notes*...not amazing in the playoffs last year?

4th liners who don't play on special teams are very valuable players.

David Quinn likes effort. But he detests over-effort.
This is not the message Quinn delivered. It's only speculation, afterthought. Quinn's message is what I have been stressing lately. Playing a defensive structure.

What he stressed at this presser, was how there were 27 quality chances against, off the rush. Which I gather are from multiple games. That was due to silly mistakes and not giving our defense a chance to defend. Cause once we were able to defend, in place to defend, we only gave up 8 chances. So, what he detests, is not playing smart, not getting the pucks deep, turning it over due to poor puck management, not making the simple plays, poor decisions, etc.... Because as we saw, the last two games, you can't defend against odd man rushes all night long and have a chance of winning.

Why we are making these mistakes, is not the message. It's that they are working on cleaning this up. I wish him luck, he will need it.

He could probably reduce this number by simply limiting the number of youngsters this team carries. Cause these are more often rookie mistakes.

Yep, I’ve gotten mighty tired of people thinking McKegg “could have signed anywhere” after his playoffs last year and “wouldn’t have signed here” if he wasn’t guaranteed an roster spot. Guy is 27 years old with a career high of 46 games played in a single season. Last year he played 41 and broke 10 points for the first time ever in his career. He had 2 goals, zero assists and was a good hustle guy in 14 playoff games. He’s the definition of a replacement level forward, if not less.

We are kinda short on energy guys. Fast, Lemieux, who else? Namestnikov? McKegg has that in his favor.

I don't understand either but here it is

Hey Quinn, how about putting NHL players on the ice who have a chance of making the team and who actually have some talent rather than the half dozen forward scrubs you had playing even though there are only 3 pre season games left before the season starts. Just a thought.

Michael Haley will be signed. If he is playing this many preseason games. I'm sure he will get a contract in my opinion

Not necessarily, could be a favor to showcase him so other teams can get a good look in case they are interested after he's released from a PTO

So why not just sign with that x team. I'm sure Rangers gave him a pto because of their interest and not to do a favor for a former player.

Ok, your opening day roster.

Panarin - Zibanejad - Buchnevich
Kreider - Chytil - Kakko
Namestnikov - Strome - Kravtsov
Lemieux - Howden - Fast

(McKegg, Nieves)

Trouba - Skjei
Staal - Fox
Hajek - DeAngelo

(Smith)

Lundqvist

(Georgiev)

Everyone sign on and I'll send it straight away as a recommendation from all those here at HF Boards. LOL

If McKegg makes the team I'll take whatever offense we can get out of him but I wouldn't be expecting a whole lot. He's got maybe 15-20 points in him--it's the same with Nieves and DiGiuseppe. If they're on your team you really don't want them above your 4th line. And they are more valuable if they can at least provide some penalty killing ability.

DiGiuseppe has looked better than Mckegg. Also, Andersson looks better, but not good enough, yet. Lindgren seems like a solid defenseman, but hopefully we can see him play next to an actual hockey player so he isn't getting shelled all night. Geertsen seems like a willing player, but he actually is what everyone claimed mcilrath was; slow, out of position and low IQ.

If McKegg makes the team...
He can fit right in if Lemieux, Fast or Howden get injured and provide that energy that would be missed by them being out. We need this 4th line coming off the PP or a goal to keep that energy going.

Maybe it's just me, but DiGiuseppe looked lost on the penalty kills against Philly. I think Nieves has paid his dues, and he brings a lot of energy. There's no rush with Kravtsov. He's so talented it probably wouldn't be a disaster, but why not just give him time in the AHL so he can get an idea of what fancy moves aren't going to work over here.

Weird thing to say given that everyone playing today except maybe Morrow has a shot at seeing NHL time this season, if not being on the opening night roster

The only way to find out if they are scrubs is to play them. He has made cuts. The last 3 games should represent more closely of what the roster will be. Its Preseason. There is a lot of youth in this organization with a lot of spots to compete for. I guess he shouldve been more concerned about being competitive in preseason than getting an in-person look from the bench of what he will have to choose from in Hartford should someone need to be called up.

Who shouldn’t have played? I am interested to know what could only be 2-3 guys that really should not have played. Because a case could be made for everyone else.

I think that could be a systems thing for DiGiuseppe. That can be fixed. But what I have noticed is he is quick. Quick around the ice. Quick on the puck. Its a fast game nowadays. He wouldn’t be a bad option on the 4th line / PK. I think him and McKegg have offered similar average play. Nieves too. They are all right around the same level of play.

No Andersson?

If Quinn is going to keep Buchy on first line and PP1 then :

PP2 could easily be

Kravtsov Chytil Kakko
Fox DeAngelo

Kravtsov and Kakko have already show some awesome chem in traverse city on the power play. May see it again tonight

I will not be a happy camper if Haley makes this team.

McKegg I can live with.

Also get Morrow the f*** out of here. Who told him he can play defense?
