I'll have you know I have friends and I was watching the game at Chili's.
I know this its not true because Chili's wouldn't let you change the channel away from basketball, football, or soccer. Heck, they'd show American Ninja Warrior before hockey.

He had an off night. It happens. He's human, you know. He's been very good this year.
I wasn't making a statement on his entire season.
Fact is he isn't worth a multi-year $6M+ contract. He is a useful player, but is replaceable.

It’s kind of a rule of mine to never complain too much when the team wins. How it gets done?…..well…..we still won and the other team can go f*** off to lick their wounds then. So it wasn’t a blowout. Would have been nice but whatever. When the chips were down the Flyers found a way to lose and we found a way to win and that’s the end of the story for last night.

At least under Gallant they still had the will to attempt to win.....there has been times previous coached clubs laid down and mailed it in . It was a stinker last night other than watching a few promising young kids....and knowing the day is coming that some roster positions will be upgraded in due time . This might be the hardest season we have to endure in the next 10 years as Ranger fans.....but with time and good management/patience ...we should be OK . Things will have a different appearance though once it is settled on who is moved for that elusive Center piece we need.

Very true. He needs to be in the room and on the ice for certain opponents, but he's a negative against good teams.
I'm as big a fight fan as anybody and I agree he should not be playing every game . With Schneider /Trouba around it is not needed. Sure he has a few good shifts...but many are not so good .

CK not a first liner?? A product of Zbad who everyone was raking on until 2 weeks ago as not carrying his weight?? Not enough 5 on 5 play domination the game he scores a 3rd period 5 on 5 game winner oh and also leads the team in 5 on 5 goals??? Just nuts.

He’s finally got the consistency we’ve been craving, gets scoring chances galore game after game, good at finishing…some ppl can’t drop their biases no matter what, they’ll find any reason to convince themselves they are right and always have been and want him demoted and probably are still bitching to themselves he’s overpaid.

If you just ask they'll put something on for you.
Right. And this is five minutes before the bartender changes the channel back to something else because of some person who requested seeing something else, which I've experienced.

Oddly enough, I think this stretch will be really good for his development. He's had to be the guy carrying the puck, sometimes with less than ideal linemates for a while now. Now he's on a line where other guys expect to have the puck, and it's forcing him to watch the ice for the open spaces and move into those spaces. Hopefully, he can come out the other side being able to do both things a little bit better.
Great point. Forcing him to play better without the puck, in finding those open spaces, and getting dirty in front of the net. But at the same time, I don't want to see his strengths curtailed (carrying the puck with speed). It's a very useful asset. But as you said, this could definitely be a good learning experience for him. His recent point production should add to his confidence, to help him develop those skills of a winger, perhaps even a sniper. I have come to the conclusion watching the past couple of years, that he will be a more dangerous offensive threat than Kakko. Kakko's lack of speed really hinders his ability to bury the puck. Speed helps you to get open and get a shot off.

Not sure I’d mark Miller as solid

Bad take. ;)

Seriously though, in general, the critique of Miller is a bad take, there are no ifs or buts about it. You ask these guys to move the puck every time, you deem that it’s a poor outcome everytime they are forced to just throw the puck up ice — which makes sense, the best defense is to have the puck in today’s game.

Then you just can’t freak out if a D has a couple of bad turnovers per game. Put together a highlight of Fox’ worst turnovers this season and it’s anything but short. He usually got like one bad per game. He makes up for it 10x, but the point is just that if you move the puck these mistakes are inevitable.

I love Schneider, but we got to remember that the NHL is a different animal for young Ds and — everyone — will need some time before really finding their footing.

Without any single doubt, Philly drew a circle around his name on the board before this game. ‘This guy is a rookie, just scored his first goal, he will be confident, put the puck in his corner and go after him hard, is he prepared for that?’ Something like that. Schneider handled it perfectly. But these type of games wears on you. All of a sudden a puck bounces on you and it won’t look pretty.

Schneider will pay of for us big time in a few years. But I think it’s good if he is brought in slowly and we should expect — nothing — else than at least a few bumps in the road.

My hope is that, by finding/going to the open space now, he will have a better sense of where that space is when he's carrying the puck with speed, allowing him to move the puck more effectively and more quickly once he's in the zone (which has been one of his problems this year).

Kakko concerns me. He has been playing so stiff lately. I really think he needs a stretch in the AHL--just go down and exhale, unclench, whatever, but go down and dominate and get re-acquainted with the attacking part of his game and build back some confidence.

What I see with Chytil carrying the puck into the zone, is him finding Panarin wide open, as he usually is, then promptly going to the net where Panarin deftly gets the puck back to him for an easy tap in. The old give and go, Kreids and Zibad have nearly perfected.

Kakko is ok. He's playing well. It's just that if he is going to score, it has to be around the net collecting the garbage. He couldn't lead a rush if he tried. Defenders catch up and close in on him too quickly. I don't think any amount of AHL conditioning will help with that. He just doesn't have the foot speed to get a clear shot at the net. Most of his shots, beyond the dots don't get through. Whereas Chytil is always moving his feet making it easier to find shooting lanes.

Remember his hattrick in the preseason?

Hard to think he only has 4 on the season. That should change with the increased ice time.

They should try a minor change of just having Chytil play center and Strome play right wing on that line and see how it goes. Would be huge for this team long term if Chytil could be a solid 2 or 3c, and he hasn’t really shown it outside of a few game spurts. His best combo was with Kreider and Buchnevich a couple years ago when Zibanejad was out and he really hasn’t had near that level of wingers since. Maybe he could thrive with skilled, experienced players like Panarin and Strome

Strome is playing well at center. Chytil has sucked at center and is now playing better on the wing.

Let's switch them!

Miller has had some really good games this year but recently he has been making more turnovers than a bakery. Given me pause.

no acquisition
pare down to true core, deal Strome for futures address cap
win now foolishness for guys we can't extend due to cap is insane indulgence b'c it is a clear waste of assets.
Instead do what we did w/Schneider ... acquire by careful adding value to move up to get the guy we want.
But to do that, you need to sell Geo + Strome NOW

LaF is still learning /developing NHL level skating. Like they say, he has to keep moving his legs. That is not just mental. Howev, he is getting there, once he is there, he will be the finisher the LaF - Chytil - Gauthier line needs

Goodrow [until Krav here] - Zib - bread
Kreider - Barron YES BARRON - Kakko
then Rooney + for 4th line
that ^ is the ticket!

Laf-Chytil-Gauthier?

Why punish Laf?

Did anybody go to the game? It sounded and looked like there were a lot of NYR fans, or at least many who migrated down to the the lower area.

I realize it's early. We're not even at the all-star break, but I think it's safe to say we are in the playoffs this year. Which is great. But as of right now, we only project to finish 5th or 6th in the east.

I believe the Canes, Bolts, Bruins, Leafs will project to be ahead of us. And maybe the Panthers. FLA will drop in the standings as they played 10 more home games than on the road. And they are not doing all that great on the road, so I see them coming back some. The others have 3 or 4 games in hand or are ahead of us. So, we have to continue to rack up the points and not get complacent with our temporary position of 1st place in the Met division if we want some home ice advantage.

But with that said, it's highly unlikely the Wings, Isles or Jackets go on some run, while we crater. And that makes us playoff bound.

We played 9 road games more than we played at home. So, the points are there if we continue our success on home ice.
