They should really move on that trade (Rakell + Fowler) for Pacioretty!

i think montreal should do this as well. find a way to move desharnais. maybe a slightly better pick to vancouver. montreal 4th and desharnais for a vancouver fifth.

Out clause or not; if he participates in a game in the KHL while the NHL season as begun, he will need to go through waivers to come back to the Ducks.

As for the story itself, no one in their right mind would leave a team in California for a small market KHL team.

I can't see the KHL allowing themselves to be used.
As a Leafs fan it would be great to get Rakell on waivers without giving up anything but a contract.

People love to say 'lolol Siberia' but fail to realize that Novisibirsk is southern Siberia. In terms of latitude it would be smack dad between Paris and Berlin

No, this only applies to UFAs, no waivers would be required to join the Ducks, they still hold his NHL rights.

This would be pretty bad news for the Ducks.

They were relying on Rakell as one of their wingers this year.

I think you're right, the O'reilly situation messed up my perception of the rules regarding RFA's. He signed an OS, therefore passing through waivers because the Flames didn't hold his rights, if the Avs hadn't matched of course.

In terms of latitude it would also be further north than Edmonton and St. John's. Actually Edmonton and Novosibirsk are pretty comparable in terms of climate and population.

I wonder if Anaheim made a mistake painting themselves in a cap corner with a lot of big contracts to veterans while counting on their young players to settle for friendly deals.

Will be interesting to see how it plays out with Rakell and Lindholm.

Eh, I'm not concerned at all.

Murray sure is cutting it close with signing Rakell and Lindholm though.

So many Anaheim fans have here said there are no cap problems and everything is perfect.

Not saying the Ducks will trade Rakell. But I would like to know what is his value?

Anaheim is stupidly vulnerable to an offer sheet for Rakell. 3x3, and you're almost guaranteed to get him.

To the Ducks? Well, we need young, talented and cheap top-6 talent ready to contribute. So, basically another version of Rakell, which makes it hard to see a value that would work for two teams.

Thanks for feedback. Looks like it's better to offer sheet him 3M and only lose a 2nd round pick

Quite amazing. HFBoards really has some smart people on here. We should be getting hired for these GM positions!

GM's probably don't see the point in offer sheeting guys this year, it just makes another guy they have to protect in the expansion draft next year at the expense of one of their other good players. No point in giving up picks for a guy who you either won't protect, or will have to protect in favour of a nearly as good player.

Sucks for Anaheim if this comes to fruition, good for the teams trying to break the stranglehold the California teams have had on the west.

we can even sweeten the pacioretty for rakell and fowler deal with some cost controlled replacements. hudon for example, maybe reway, maybe both. solves some immediate headaches for the ducks and fills their first line left winger spot about as cheaply as you can. there also ready than to get lindholm signed. win win win win for everybody.
