Kinda surprised at the quality of Suwinski's AB's against Smyly tonight. That's gotta be so tough for a rookie, thought it might be an uncompetitive matchup going into the game....

Great moment for Jack. HIs hometown. Family in the stands.

They had a great capture of Jack's Dad wiping away the tears, a few minutes after Jack's home run.

And then doubled down going into the crowd for the tearjerker story with the fam.

I really like his dad.

Once again - I just don't get those who want to give up on Mitch Keller? I mean - the stuff is outstanding. Like previous Bucs pitchers that blossomed elsewhere.

Got no problem watching him figure it out for another year. The potential payoff is just too good to give up on.

Sure. There is no reason to get rid off him. We aren't trying to win. He's not blocking anyone else's spot. We are gonna suck with or without him, this year and next.

The bolded sounds like a developmental issue.

Of course it is. And that's one of the primary reasons the Pirates have changed everything about their development program in the last two years.

Keller may get passed by Roansy, Burrows and Nicholas. Even Priester. But I'll be curious if they go the 3 innings/2x per week route with him as they did with Crowe.

We've got an elite closer. I can tell you that much.
I was guardedly optimistic for the position players this year.

Instead I just see non-competitive AB after non-competitive AB. Whereas the pitching...Quintana strong, Brubaker good in spurts, ditto Thompson, Bednar/Crowe, Banda looks intriguing.

Reynolds starting to hit at all will help things. And purging Yoshi at this point.

Mayo with a mock just out. Has Holliday all the way up to 1. Fits the O's MO, given Jones is going to certainly cost you overslot.

Another mock with Lee to us. Makes sense given what Cherington has done, obviously. Advanced college hitter, from both sides, can play SS/3B/2B, doesn't strike out, walks a lot, coaches kid, high baseball iq....He'd obviously help the ML team quicker than a Termarr Johnson but it'll be interesting to see how BC invests this pick.

I don't understand what the people who won't give up on Mitch Keller are seeing.

He is a power pitcher who generally can't blow his fastball by major league hitters.

Glasnow was ruined because at the time the Pirates had a guy who threw an elite 4 seam/curve combo throwing 2 seamers with a pitch to contact philosophy.

Keller just isn't fooling anybody at this level and has seldom shown the ability to fool anybody at this level for a few years now.

Look at the strike vs ball splits and subsequently walks. His inability to locate pitches is just as much a problem as his flat fastball. Watch Bednar throw the same pitch and you'll see 2 vastly different qualities.

Maybe he'll continue the trend of more highly touted prospects to leave and find success, but he's not close to being in the class of Cole, Glasnow, Musgrove.
