I just can’t get behind the theory that the pirates would somehow crush their financial profile if they spent 10 mil on an OF/1B. But I totally believe no free agent with that kind of talent would want to come here and be part of a toxic organization.

Does anyone here buy mlb.tv? It’s on sale for $25 for the rest of the season and my previous way of watching has been unreliable lately. I am watching tonight’s game as the free game tonight and it seems pretty cool, but wondering if it is reliable

BC said that Oviedo is in AAA to stretch out as a starter. Kinda what we knew already but BC specifically said it tonight.

I don't think BC really said much that we didn't know already. He said that they view Holderman as a future high leverage bullpen arm that is already a MLB proven reliever. Oviedo is another proven pitcher that they think may be a few adjustments away from being a good starter. BC praised Nunez's hitting a lot, but noted that there is some refinement needed for contact points and launch angles for him to take that next step.

It's relatively reliable though I have weird issues with it. I couldn't get it to reliably work on my PS5 earlier this year, so I have defaulted to just using my PS4. It's just slightly behind the cable broadcast but nothing extreme, though for example when it's late in the game and do or die, I stay off twitter etc because the beat writers all see to type up end of game tweets and hit post the instant the game ends in person.

The other issue I had this year was that once a game, the feed would just freeze and I'd have to reset it. These are all minor annoyances but on the whole it works pretty well. I really don't like messing around for streams and haven't had consistent luck with them when I tried (I needed them vs. Philly last week and it was a pain the whole time, plus it monopolizes my laptop).

Why, what happened between the two?

Yeah, it's been fine for me. Archived games, full or condensed are a nice bonus.

Cherington also noted that a lot of their bullpen is shifting more towards the groundballer type of pitchers, as in pitchers who throw more sinkers/2-seamers/sliders. He specifically noted that as to why they brought in Beasley (saying that he's a bit different of a flavor than what they've been adding a lot of recently), but it's interesting to see that they're setting up their bullpen that way.

Having a groundball focused pitching staff with a strong defensive IF is a good way for lower budget teams to outperform IMO.

Vindication w/Marcano. When I saw him raking in person in Harrisburg a few months back, I was hooked.

He and Cruz should be 1-2, every, single, game (sans a breather now and then).

Does anyone think we'll actually see that though?

Marcano has also hit the ball with good authority tonight all three times. I don't think he's going to hit the ball over the fence a lot, but it's not too insane to think he'll grow into a little bit more power.

I'd like to see Marcano get put at the top of the order as a spark plug guy, but I don't totally hate Cruz batting 4th or 5th. The biggest issue is probably who hits behind him, but if he hits in one of those spots, he'll have a pretty fine chance of getting 4 ABs every game which I think is the biggest fundamental key. When he bats 7th or 8th, especially if Newman or others cool off, then he's not going to get the ABs. I expect a lot of shuffling with the rest.

Newman is dialed in to the point where I think he has the inside track to continue holding a starting spot.
