Great stuff Q. If this is your last start here, thank you sir. Hope you'll stay/come back.

This version of Newman is legit good. Someone has to be in on him (nothing special in return certainly) as a bench upgrade or even starter if he's able to maintain this sort of pace.

Good for Allen.

I want to keep Newman if he's going to be this kind of guy going forward. A great defensive middle infielder who hits for a decent average and provides speed? I think the Pirates need that.

The team has a lot of really bad hitters, so I don't know that selling off one of their guys who is a good hitter right now (and is cost controlled I believe) is a great idea.

I'd be totally happy to re-sign Quintana or look to trade him for a young starter (like someone like Schmidt or Sears) and re-sign him in the off-season. I think the rotation with Contreras, Quintana, Keller, Schmidt, Brubaker and Thompson should be at least solid next year, especially if Keller can maintain the 3.50 ERA/FIP level he has had in his last 10 starts.

They need to focus on addressing the bats more than the pitching. The starters aren't amazing, but they are legitimate MLB starters who can give your team a chance to win every night. The bats are putrid at an unacceptable level. The only starter with an above average OPS this year is Reynolds and Newman (after today).

And as I say that, Newman and Allen have back to back doubles and the Pirates are up 1-0.
I thought you said they were all set at every position other than 1B literally less than a week ago.

I just wonder if its an Organizational approach issue. Not a talent issue. No one is hitting. Anywhere haha.

Quintana would be the perfect signing for a team on this budget. If we can get a first baseman that can sometimes play a corner OF spot and hit, we’d be set

It's partially that but I think they just don't have a lot of good hitters in the organization above AA. I don't think it should be too surprising that guys who OPSed like .750 through the minors aren't doing much at the plate in the majors.

Their entire lineup today is just major league cast-offs from other teams and guys who never hit that great through the minors that the Pirates acquired as prospects. Everyone falls in those two categories. Shouldn't be overly surprising that it's not panning out well.

Cruz and Hayes have had some unlucky hits in the last 2 innings. Hayes smoked one to the LFer with Allen on 3rd and Cruz just smoked one to the 1B that resulted in a double play.

Combination of Hayes long swing and pitchers lack of velocity equals HR to right, but we'll take it.

It's just astounding how low IQ this whole organization is with basic baseball. Cruz was obviously going to be trying to get into scoring position there, so why is Tsutsugo stealing on a pitch he's very likely going to do nothing with and causing Cruz to not be able to steal? And how is Cruz missing 2nd while coming back?

f*** it, let's pick 1st again if we're going to be this bad...

Marte is having a meh season (still a big ceiling) but depending on the rest of the package, not a bad return.

I think this bodes well for us and Quintana now.
