The Cubs having some Pirates-esque running mistakes in the 1st

Nice throw by Mitchell but I'm not entirely sure why he's up while Suwinski is down at this point.

I don't really have an issue with VanMeter playing, at least relatively speaking in the sense that he's just going to hang around for however many ABs he's going to get before we finally decide to move on. To be clear, that should have happened already, and I'm expecting a roster shuffle after the deadline, but it kind of is what it is.

What's annoying is seeing Cruz buried in the lineup, and in all likelihood seeing 1 less AB per game because of it. I can get with an argument that he should start producing better results before he is pushed up, but it's not like he's taking a slot away from someone else who is producing. The season should be about maximizing his ABs in the remaining months -- his cumulative stats, especially batting average (which the front office clearly and obviously does not care about in the slightest), aren't really that important. If he strikes out at a +40% K rate, that's going to be an issue after another few weeks, but otherwise the way to assess him is in how he's looking, how he makes adjustments, etc.

And geez, can't even get through writing a couple of sentences without VanMeter botching a routine ground ball. Honestly hoping against hope that we'll move on from him and Yoshi after this mini-series.

I like that Cherington's initials are BC, cause that's pretty much where his grade belongs at this point in time.

Brownie points for inheriting a ~20th ranked farm system, trading Marte/Bell/Musgrove/Taillon/Frazier, 3 years of high picks/bonuses and ending up with the 3rd-5th ranked farm system...why? It's expected. B-C grade.

I will say his management of last year’s draft was masterful. I just hate we’re seemingly trying to build a contender solely through the draft and trades. We need to do something in free agency but it’ll never happen

That's his high water mark here.

Though his 2020 draft ain't looking so hot right now.

I can't remember the last time I watched a game that Greg Brown called where I didn't have the game on mute from the 4th or 5th inning onwards.
Amen. He's been brutal tonight.
Imagine having to enthusiastically watch every Pirates game for the last 30 years. Personally, I’m surprised he’s not Aikman-level of alcoholic at this point.

& then where he is Batting you would bitch & moan about that & I want him DFA'd
Ok, champ. So there's no confusion, I don't want him anywhere in the lineup. If he's going to be in the lineup, he should not be batting leadoff. Not sure if you're just being antagonistic or are a Shelton Super Fan or a VanMeter Super Fan or what and you're entitled to your opinion. My opinion is that a guy with a .260 OBP should not be hitting leadoff. Enjoy your day.
