Despite that whistle error on that late TD by Cincy in the first half, the Raiders were their own worst enemy in this game.

7 accepted penalties.

Waller and the entire OLine had a penalty with Leatherwood committing 2 fouls. Defence didn't have a penalty.

Raiders, IMO need to move off Tom Cable.

Raiders, also had time management issues in getting the plays calls. Several times Carr was still getting the play out to a receiver and barely got the play off and a couple of plays they barely seemed ready before the ball got snapped.

Raiders had their chances late in the game. Carr, can't believe he didn't get the ball high enough over Hubbard, instead hitting him in the helmet when he had Waller open at the 5 to extend their second last drive to keep the TD option open rather than settling for a FG. Being down 3 before giving the ball back to Cincy with 3 minutes left would have changed a lot IMO.

If I'm Cincy with 3 minutes and only up by 3, I would put the ball in Burrows hands rather than try 2 runs on the first 2 downs. But, if the Raiders got the ball back with 2 minutes left, they probably tie the game and we go into OT.

But, the Raiders need to clean up their OL. Be it with personnel or coaching. I try coaching first.

Raiders need Mullen, Abrams to remain healthy. They miss too many games, especially Abrams who needs to play more under control. I trust Bradley as the DC to figure it out with them if they have NFL talent.

But, those last 2 drafts killed them in round 1.

2020 - Ruggs over Wirfs who is an all pro RT. Brown wasn't long for the Raiders. That upcoming year was his final guaranteed money. Such a bad signing.
2020 - Arnette - Ruggs likely would have been there at 19 instead of taking him at 12. Only Lamb and Juedy went in those 6 picks between the Raider's selections.
2021 - Leatherwood. That was the year to target a CB like Newsome whom the Browns took. Or based off what they did in 2020, take a legit Tackle. Darrishaw was there and he was excellent with the Vikings.

So, for Davis, he has to figure out who made the calls on those 3 players. As well as Bowden and Muse in round 3 of 2020. Not to mention Ferrell in 2019. Was it all Gruden or was it Mayock. If it was Mayock, he needs to be fired as well. Unacceptable for a guy who was a draft analyst of TV.

Raiders also hosed by officiating

Report: Refs from Raiders-Bengals game not expected to work rest of playoffs

Referee Jerome Boger and the rest of his crew aren't expected to get high marks for their officiating.
Yes. The play should have been replayed. So they would still get another shot to convert that 3rd down.

Raiders got that cheap roughing the passer call when Carr snapped his head back but was actually hit in the shoulder area on the last drive.

raiders too many penalties that ended drives.

Waller the false start on first drive. Another false start on second drive. Barber going after the kickoff by the sideslines backing them up at the 2.

Leatherwood with a Hold and illegal man downfield. James and Simpson with holds on the 2nd last FG drive with the Simpson one killing that drive inside the 10.

Raiders were the own worst enemy out there.

Mayock is out as GM. Can’t say I’m too shocked. Unless Mayock has backup that those first round blunders of Ferrell, Arnette, Learherwood were Gruden’s calls he has to absorb blame for them as well.

Lousy organization about to need a reset yet again. I sense Davis is getting a little sharper on what the weaknesses have been but they have a lot of steps to take before they might right the ship. They tried to take a shortcut by overpaying Gruden and bringing in guys he liked, but now look where it's gotten them.

Not sure it was a shortcut. Seems like with the down year from Del Rio it gave him a chance to push all in on Gruden. The issue was also that none of McKenzie’s picks lasted under Gruden.

Conley and Obi the Safety were complete wiffs in 2017. 2016 first rounder Joseph could t crack Gruden’s lineup as a starter.

the raiders need to nail a draft or 2 to really have a chan CD moving forward.

this is a vital hire for GM and HC. KC and LAC with Mahomes and Herbert in the division. No cup cake like Dallas had going 6-0. NFC west, no team dominated the divisional matchups. Even split of 3-3 each.

AFC west raiders split. Chargers split. KC went 5-1. Denver went 1-5. It’s a tough division with those 2 elite QBs. Cause Denver didn’t have a QB.

last thing with Mayock, since he personally knew Gruden for years, you can put some blame on him for those missed picks because he should have been able to rely on their friendship to gain Jon’s trust in player evaluations. Jon, trust me, the guy to go with is Player X. Player Y has these flaws.

Man the raiders and their players getting into trouble off the field. Hobbs caught excessively speeding just a couple of weeks ago being asleep at the wheel in a parking lot. And a couple of months removed from e Ruggs accident.

Raiders really need to figure out how to get through to their players about making better decisions off the field.

Raiders hire Patriots' Dave Ziegler as GM, expected to bring on Josh McDaniels as head coach

McDaniels and Ziegler were reportedly a package deal.

Looks like they've got their guys
Has to win the locker room over. The guys love Rich. So Josh better have learned his lesson and be his own person rather than try to imitate BB completely.

from an offensive POV he has a track record of getting a lot out of the slot wr and Renfrow is already a top guy. And the TE with Waller. Though he’s not much of a blocker so see how Moreau develops. WR the Pats haven’t had much talent there and the raiders need a guy on the outside.

think an OL coach is a vital hire. NE when Dante S returned to coach that unit really improved.
See how many of the current staff he keeps. I suspect that Cable and Olsen are going to be let go.

I don't think you can really read anything into his abilities from his time in NE. His problems have always been in not setting the right tone and understanding the nature of coaching. Being an HC isn't about the Xs and Os. I think that's the underrated part of McVay. He's great at X's and O's on offense but he has also mastered the art of preparing his team for the long season, handling the media and expectations and generally working to become a players coach. When the Rams win, he says its all because of what the players did. When they lose, he tries to take every bit of blame he can and say he needs to be better. He knew that despite all the midseason losses, the team was set up to play its best in the postseason and here they are one win away from a title.

That's just the environment you create in the modern NFL and I don't think McDaniels has a clue on how to do that. Bellicheck handled it to a degree in NE, but more so the team captains and best players created that environment and why Brady was so important to them along with the long string of veteran leaders on defense that kept their amazing run going. I don't think McDaniels ever did much other than draw up a bunch of fancy plays.
