Raiders cut ties with another former first-round pick

Raiders release CB Arnette due to off field issues.

Davis need to shake up scouting staff and/or change drafting philosophy
I watched Cowherd clips and one of the things he spoke with Joel Klatt about was that the upside for these kids at the big programs is pretty much at where they will be as a pro given the quality of coaching and players that they practice against. Seen that a bit with some of the players at Clemson, Ohio State, Alabama. Think that was the case at the beginning of the millennium with so many of the Miami Hurricane players not doing much in the NFL.

also need to factor in that players also get selected based on the DC or OC and their scheme. A guy like Arnette would not have been a pick if Gus Bradley was the DC instead of Paul guenther. Bradley was the DC when the LOB emerged in Seattle. Arnette size wise didn’t fit his mould of CB.

NFL draft goes after free agency. So to me free agency is where you address your most pressing needs. In round 1 you should expect a starter but also have to consider when you are electing and who is expected to be there. Basically don’t reach for a player based on your need. Should have done that with free agency.

never a fan of the Arnette pick. Bowden pick didn’t like. Don’t take gadget guys. If he’s a third down type back that can give you some runs that’s ok but never got the sense that he was a major contributing guy. Muse, seemed undersized for a NfL LB. not athletic enough to be a S in the nfl. Didn’t like that pick either.

Dallas without Lamb and Cooper at WR.
Raiders need to snap this losing streak and avoid falling under.500

Massive home run candidates.
Don’t see any nfl coach leaving their spot for LV. Except for Carroll if he wants a change of scenery and doesn’t want to break in a young QB.

college, no way Dabbo is leaving Clemson for sin city.

Jim Harbaugh would be interesting. Seems like the kind of guy to wear out his welcome after about 4 years.

6-6 now. Remaining games be KC, LAC, Den, Cle and Indy.

even 4-1 only gets them to 10-7. With so many tie breakers in play hard to guarantee that you make it in.

They own the H2H vs Mia, Bal and Pit. Don’t have it vs Cin. Need to split the H2H with LAC and KC because they can’t afford to be behind in the division first.

This team is out of gas, can't see how they go 4-1 rest of the way.
They went 0-3 vs giants, Bears, WFT. 2 of them at home. But 2 of those losses came off distractions with Gruden Emails and Ruggs car accident and subsequently cut from the team.

it’s typical of the raiders. Start off well but fall in the second half. Coaching imo. How to adjust when teams have game film from the first half of the year to stop or attack your team.

I’m glad I didn’t pay to attend a Raider game. Too many awful home games from the team this year. Thought I might see the Chicago game or this game and I have no regrets about not attending.

Doesn’t mean I won’t attend a later game if I like the prices though.

Afc is so tightly packed. Only Houston, Jets and Jax do not have 6 wins or more. 13 teams with 6 wins through week 13.

7 make the playoffs. Raiders own tie breakers vs Bal, Mia and with Pitt’s tie vs Det that no longer plays barring a raiders tie. Raiders have H2H vs Cle and Indy. And 3 divisional games.

I am guessing the 7th seed is 10-7 but will the tie breakers go the raiders way if they get to that point?

Wonder if Davis will call up his buddy Foley and ask for ideas how he can keep other team's jerseys out of the stands. I doubt Davis cares, but I'm sure some part of him wants to blame having so many opposing fans in house every home game as part of the problem in winning long term.

Blowout loss to KC. Under 0.500 now.

10 teams have 7 wins right now.

9-8 won’t get you into the playoffs.

Winning 4 straight to close the year is still banking on tie breakers to get you in.
