Player Discussion Rafaël Harvey-Pinard

Even next season?
Yes, he’s signed with Leksand for another 2 years if i’m not mistaken. So i guess there will still have some clause for him to return there if he doesn’t make the team but i’m not 100% sure. I’d bet on him making the team next season though, he wasn’t that far last training camp if he didn’t get injured.

No, unless a few long term contracted forwards are traded on top of the UFA not being resigned before next season start.

Habs already have 12 forwards with contract for next season that started on the roster this year (I'm counting Pezz and Caufield even if they technically have to sign a contract for next season). That's one spot open for RHP, Ylonen, Farrell and Heineman...
I think that just means a couple of those other contracted forwards need to be moved or whatever need be.

Arber's fighting technique is not very good. He should ask Nilan for a couple of tips.
Sounds like something Nilan would say.. I also heard him a few years ago say something along the lines of that he wasn't sure who would win in a fight with him against McGregor. The ego is strong with him.

Amazing play on Anderson’s goal yesterday. He has a higher IQ than I expected and always find a way to crash the net on rushes. He could very well be a 3rd line player that can step up in the top 6 occasionally.

Should probably sign this guy long-term a la Gallagher before he keeps piling up the points.

He likely will sign a two-year deal with us in the summer, a kind of "prove-it" contract if you will. The term of his contract could change, but I don't think Hughes will offer three years as that would send Harvey-Pinard straight to UFA.

And anything over three years seems way premature for a guy with less than 20 total NHL games under his belt at this point, no matter how good he looks in that small sample size, but I guess things could change in the coming weeks if RHP continues playing like he does now come game 40 or so for him.

So yeah, as far as length+AAV goes, my guess is that two years at $1M to $1.4M would be pretty reasonable and please all concerned parties.

I'd throw him 4 years at 1.3-1.5 he'll probably take it...

RHP is another example showing that most players are labelled too early, one way or the other. Some highly touted young players will never live up to the hype, while other will beat expectations. RHP is also a proof that maturity matters for most players. It's better to keep a player on year too long in a lower league, than to bring him up one year too soon.

No, we don't know that. Who knows what would happened if he came up last year, or next year.

Hard work and determination defines RHP. He willed himself into the NHL. good for him.

Right now he is getting to play with our best center which wouldn't be the case if not for the injury to CC which was a lucky break for RHP and probably gets him a full-time roster spot next season. I don't know what our team will look like next year but it's hard to imagine him playing top 6 minutes but anything is possible.

I watched a lot of Laval's games in the last three years. He was clearly a player waiting for a real chance in the NHL.

I guess you did not watched his first few games with Belzile and Pezzetta. Yes it's good for him to play with Suzuki, but as soon he was called up, he climbed to the window to say to the coach he was there as a first line option. MSL had no choice but to pull him through that window.

Your assumption is wrong. He has made the most of his opportunity and deserves to stay with the Canadiens. I was just talking about next year and where he might potentially slot into the lineup.

A future 3rd/4th liner on a contending Habs team. He will never be top 6 on any contender.
I see him as a 30ish point player in the NHL in a third-line role which would be great especially if he can be signed for 1-1.5 per on a 2-year deal. If he surpasses that and does better it's a win for him and the team.

He will carve himself out a career that makes him millions of dollars. Not bad for a 7th round pick.
I think he got passed over in his first year of draft eligibility.
Great story. Initially he signed an AHL contract, showed enough to earn an NHL deal later that first season.
It's easy to cheer for the underdogs
