Player Discussion Rafaël Harvey-Pinard

His shooting percentage will come down, but he'll get more shots on net by playing in the top 6. He looks like a guy who can score 30+ goals.

I'm soooo looking forward to that.

Like, finally, a prospect thats not overhyped over a tiny sample size on a terrible team?

It’s like the Pitlick situation last year. He looks good with good minutes and playing top 6 but he won’t replicate this playing bottom 6 or 4th line normally.

Pitlick has more speed, which was allowing him to be in the right place at the right time last year.

RHP has more offensive talent, which is allowing him to score some really nice goals and use his hockey sense to anticipate being in the right place at the right time.

Because Pitlick doesn't have the offensive I Q he wasn't able to follow up last year's production this year. We'll see how far RHP's superior offensive IQ takes him, given his smaller height and average speed...

What do you mean? 5 goals in 7 games is totally sustainable. Caufield possessed RHP’s body before leaving.

Would be nice for once to have realistic or even underestimate one of our prosect. It would make for a nice surprise.

I gotta say, props for RHP taking full advantage of the opportunity. But wow, not 15 NHL games under his belt and pegged as a 30+ goal scorer  with no real precedent to really go off of

Cant we be happy that hes already beating the expectations of a 5th rounder by seeing time in the NHL and scoring a few goals?

Ah, for sure i’m not saying he sucks, he brings great energy and it’s good to see him get rewarded now. Just that his production will drastically drop just like Pitlick!
RHP and Pitlick have nothing in common. RHP is one of the smartest hockey player in the organization, if Pitlick had half the brain RHP does hes be an elite player.

People really gotta stop betting against hockey smarts.

Calling him a future fourth liner is hilarious. He has been a top 6er everywhere he went, his game is tailor made to be a supporting character in a top 6. He reminds me of Palat as a player, and he also has a similar career arc so far. Palat broke out at 23, RHP 24, but Ive been calling for a shot in the top 6 since last year.

Habs are allowed to have good.players. its just a shame its another 5 foot 2 guy, lol.

Be pretty good he turns into a player. But I've seen small sample sizes before.
He got promoted to the 1st line last night after the 1st period, and scored two goals on Suzuki's line......I like his speed and willingness to go to the dirty areas.................
Would like to see him stay, and put Drouin and Armia on waivers.....

Gets close to net, puts puck in net.

Scoring when in tight is a different skill to beating the goalie from the circles and having someone who has the hands, hand-eye and puck tracking skills to get that done is something we need. He doesn't need to get his body smashed up around the crease to do it, either (Gally).

Nice to see MSL bump him to top line duties in-game and get a 2-goal reward.

Yeah anyone thinking the production, or even a modicum of it will continue is inhaling hopium at high levels.

But he plays hard, he has heart and he has enough skill to make good on chances and create them.

Local kid, passed over twice, drafted in the 7th round and playing in the bottom 6? You can't really ask for more.

The funny thing is, Suzuki who has not looked like himself for the last 2 weeks miraculously woke up once RHP was placed on his line. I am left to wonder why Marty waited so long to try him there, the kid has energy and a nose for the net and is proving that he can finish plays at this level. Obviously, his current pace is not sustainable but it's how he is able to be in the right place even to have those high quality chances to start with.

Gallagher does not have the skill level of RHP and that is no disrespect to him, he has been successful in the NHL but his body has paid the price for it because of his style. RHP can be a 20 goal scorer in the NHL with a full time roster spot.

But this is probably the reason why he didnt been draft in 2018. He was probably 5ft 8, 150 pounds. But his score pedigree in the Q, combined with his ratio +\- is pretty impressive.

As cool as his production has been so far i do not expect this to last especially as injured players return and his role on the team is cut and he falls back to the 3rd or 4th line.

He has a lot of jam, which separates him from players like Pitlick. Like a hyman/gally/byron player that can play up and down the lineup and give a consistent performance.

He has 7 points in 11 games in the NHL, its not like he cant be a career +/- .6 player. Theres a difference between shooting blind like Pouliot did in his first year and actually making the plays.

RHP....and another example of why you go BPA. 'Cause nobody NEED another smurf that is a good scorer in the Q and that usually plateau fairly early.

Still...in his draft year, the kid was EASILY a BPA starting AT WORST in round 5.

The only question mark for him, and for every smaller player that plays as hard as he does...it's staying out of the infirmary over a 82-game season.

I understand how everybody is creaming their pants over this guy, just like they did early on with Ryan Pheoling and Max Domi

Lets wait another year or two before getting too excited, cause he is looking like nothing more than a career AHL'er to me

Plays a veteran game, which probably suits Suzuki’s. Exceptionally talented top 6 20 year olds make great plays; but it’s easier to play with experimented guys like RHP, and looks like he has enough finish to fit in as well as any current hab imo.

I figure some day down the line habs sign a ppg 25-30 year old all-star ufa to play on Cc-Suz’s line once ready to start contending. Fill the 2nd and 3rd lime with all these stud rookies but ice a proper 1st line.

So far so good. Love the hustle and his nose for loose pucks.

Believe it or not, being first and acting quickly on loose pucks is a skill not many players have. Let's hope this is a sign of what is to come.
No question. Getting chances is a skill in itself. Many more 'skillful' players never seem to have as many chances that seem to follow this young player, regardless of whom he plays with. We are in the midst of a complete re-build. Whether RHP is part of the re-build remains to be seen. But in the interim, do we have better options?
