I like his game, I just hope management stops glorifying role players like we've done the past couple of decades.
He might end up being more than just a role player, he's pacing at an elite goal scoring pace over his carreer so far. Let's see if he can keep up the good work.

He's more Fernando Pisani than elite scorer.

People love to evaluate players based on their draft rankings, instead of their actual play. And yet, the NHL history is full of players who went undrafted or got drafted very late, before arriving in the NHL with low expectation and producing at a high rate against all odds.

Truth is : Players development is not linear. Some are late bloomers. Some are full of talent but can put it all together (hello Jesse Ylonen). Some have produced at high levels at every step of their career but have been underappreciated because of some bias against their size or the league they play in.

To discard RHP's play by branding it as a lucky stretch serves no useful purpose. Why can't we just appreciate what he's bringing and adapt our expectations accordingly?

Got nothing to do with draft position, or luck. He's just not an elite scorer. Never was. He's shooting at an unsustainable % right now and that's great, but it won't continue. Just like Pitlick last year.

RHP is a good, honest hockey player who should find his NHL niche on a 3rd, maybe 4th line.

Hopefully but his stats are 6 goals 2 assists for 8 pts in 11 games though.

Wish he'd go on LTIR already and stop wasting a roster spot that could be given to someone like RHP but pretty sure he'll keep trying to come back for at least another season, unfortunate
I think his Habs career will end while being on the LTIR. He's suffered through so many injuries that I find it hard pressed to think he will finish out his contract while still playing.

As long as he can maintain a shooting percentage of 25% then sure.

Correction: its 30% or 33% lol

ahhh right I was going off of hockey reference's career numbers and adding tonight's two goals and shut but I made a mistake

Isnt 30% though? Not a huge difference, but 6 goals on 20 shots?

Like, if he can maintain that form over even 82 games, I'd be ecstatic.

But wow people already throwing the "elite" qualificative... Back in my days it was reserved for rookies who scored 4 goals in their first NHL game :sarcasm:

It’s like the Pitlick situation last year. He looks good with good minutes and playing top 6 but he won’t replicate this playing bottom 6 or 4th line normally.

Exactly.

They both possess great speed, and a pretty decent set of tools. But they’re inconsistent and they are not true top-6 players. RHP may have enough tenacity in his game to translate some level of success to a bottom-6 role that kills penalties and gets PP-time or moved up in the lineup to shake things up.

I really hope he’s our Marchessault but I’m not holding my breath.
