Speculation: Quinn Hughes wants to contend

No they wouldn't. They can sign him for nada in two years.

How many times has that been said? Every year, multiple times fans start penciling in a potential UFA. Most get re-sign, get traded and sign with that team or just sign somewhere else as UFAs. Fans go cry in a corner unable to believe their cunning plan didn't work.

Amazing that the whole thing could have been avoided if they had just moved Miller and kept Horvat like they were going to do and then decided not to. Crazy times we're living in.
I still don't understand why Horvat was traded.

Now we're sitting here contemplating the possibility of Hughes being traded.

Wouldn't he be worth more than first overal?

PuckEmpire is surprisingly a very reliable source. You can doubt me all you want but not only has he broke many stories, but he's also got extremely reliable connections.
This really isn't a "story" though. It's stating the obvious if all the worst case scenarios happen to Vancouver. Yes if the Canucks trade everybody and turn themselves into a basement team Hughes isn't going to want to stick around and has options as a UFA in 2027. That pretty much goes without saying for any top player especially at that age.

The Canucks have hit a rough stretch and contemplating a shakeup at the moment but the chances they just tank and trade everyone is practically non-existent. This is a 'water is wet' level speculation that has no substance or any present day relevance. If you're talking about trading a Quinn Hughes now you may as well not even have a team. If the Canucks fail through this season and next then in the 2026 off season you can fire up the Hughes speculation. As is the case with any top player when they hit that last season until they have an extension in place.

Why have a thread on something highly unpredictable 2 years in advance?

It was
Mercer
Casey
1st
1st
Hamilton proceeds

And the trade would be in the offseason. Hamilton being moved in the offseason is something that has been discussed among NJD fans as an option.

And yes, if Quinn comes in it would be Hamilton out.

Luke-Quinn-Hamilton all making massive money is not feasible. And again, a big part of hamilton's value comes from him being one of the best PP Dmen in the league. There are few guys I would place over him on the PP. Quinn hughes is 1 of those few

Casey is a top tier PPQB.

Nemec and Silayev are not.

Again, with Quinn in, you are wasting a PPQB if you keep him. So for NJD, the defensive dmen and the more even strength driver in silayev and Nemec make more sense to keep. To a team like Vancouver in this case who would be without a PP QB (which you need), that value of casey's impact there is accentuated

So, with Quinn Hughes on the team, a large part of what Casey provides will forever be wasted since there will be no PP opening.

And yes, I do view casey as less than Nemec. Hence why I replaced Nemec in the proposal with Casey AND a 1st.
I missed the second 1st. "Hamilton proceeds" is too nebulous to discuss meaningfully but he should get a good price. I mean, one question: why isn't Hamilton just going to Vancouver directly?

ah yes... the inclusive 3rd round pick lol
Ha, I missed the other poster suggested Casey + 1st instead of Nemec
I added a 2nd one way and a 3rd going the other. I mean at this point, it'd be a deal massaging conversation. No forum deal can appease everyone. I'm happy to just land in the right ballpark. Thanks for reading.

I heard if Miller Petterson Boeser Demko Linden and the Sedins are traded for futures and Messier comes back as GM/coach/player that Hughes will get traded and the Canucks will have Garland Myers and Jykri Lumme be a Cerberus like 3 headed triple captain.

Just a rumour. But I swear I heard it.
can you get into more details about the cerberus part? fact checking.

Scott Niedermayer was going to play with his brother.

The Hughes Bros live together all off season, they grew up together, this is an opportunity in the primes of the careers to potentially win together. GM Tom goes back 30+ years with the family, and Jack/Luke know how great it is to play in Jersey with a limited spotlight but all the benefits. You think Jim and Ellen like staying up late for the West Coast everyday?

He's coming to Jersey. The question is whether Van wants to get something back.

The return is going to be similar to Rantanen.

Dougie Hamilton, Simon Nemec and maybe a Gristyuk straight up for Quinn is solid return. Maybe a little bit more. But not that much more.

If he wants to contend then you can't trade Pettersson, Demko or Miller and you must resign Boeser. If any of them go then Hughes may ask for a trade in the coming weeks.

“If we were going to completely start over that means he goes,” Rutherford told The Globe and Mail on Tuesday of Hughes.

From JR’s mouth himself. The only trolling is whatever the Canucks organization is doing to their fans.

Man, the Canucks management group really doesn't know when to shut the f*** up to the media...

If Canucks end up trading Hughes his value will be whatever the highest bidder is willing to pay. Despite what Canuck fans hope for the salary cap severely limits the teams interested in this kind of player

At $7.85M, teams would be tripping over themselves to make cap space for Hughes.

The salary cap doesn't limit a trade at all.

Looks like he lacks a NMC. That takes some of his pwr away from where he goes. Gotta believe Fitzy runs to the front of the line to get him. Kinda wish for this to die down until the off season. We are already disputing Nemec/Hamilton/Casey playing D here going fwd.

He may run to the front of the line but that doesn't necessarily ensure the Devils get him.

If the Devils got him though, that'd pretty much guarantee none of those guys are ever leaving, and could probably be had for cheaper under new contracts.

I can't imagine the Devils or any team could really figure out a Hughes deal in season. Devils would need to move Hamilton pretty much. He has a NMC, and I think he'd move it if they asked, but in season is going to be very difficult. Also again, you get Quinn for 2-runs, certainly worth something for Van but how much will a team give up for Quinn if they pretty much know they can't sign him?

With soo many issues in Vancouver one can only wonder if there are leadership issues there... Who is their captain?

The Devils are fine waiting for Dillon's deal to run out and then Quinn comes here as a free agent.

The easiest thing to do.

We get to cosplay as the Rangers for once, waiting for our guy to force his way to us.

I think multiple other teams would pay more for him and roll the dice they could entice him to stay. Throw him in a winning environment and he might re-up, there's only speculation his desire to play with his brothers outweighs contending. The Staals never forced themselves together, clubs did it more than anything else.
