he cant. with hronek outs ITS not sustainable. hes bound to get hurt at some point and the defense will be very very ugly. myers/juulsen,friedman,soucy deharnais branstrom. playing 28 mins/night is not good in the long run.

8th in overall ice per game. The same amount as every other #1 D-man in the league. he's the best D-man in the world. He is going to play the minutes that the other best D-men in the world play.
He will play more when the team is chasing the game which has happened a lot this year. But the solution to them always chasing the game has little to do with his play. It's to have everyone else going at puck drop so they can get the lead.
In the end he's averaged just shy of 25 minutes a game this year. That happens to be the same average icetime he's had for the last 250 games he's played. His work load is managed in other ways...more off days.

Sure over a large enough span it works out that way. Last few games he had increasingly become the only play driver and his shift lengths have gone up. Had 5 straight games over 27 mins with one at 31. Was only down on minutes yesterday because he was gone for a chunk of the first getting his face fixed. It's not all about minutes though, its about how hard those minutes are too.
The concern is if he's the main focus, playing 28 to 30 mins on the regular (recently), and the team is straight up sorry when he isn't out there. It's a recipe for failure. Quinn playing 28 minutes is nothing like any other defenseman playing 28. He has the puck way more than anyone else in the league, he skates constantly and hard, he takes cheapshots and physical pressure all over the ice. If we play him til the wheels fall off like EDM and McDavid we will regret it for years.
We need to either get a guy or spread minutes around with what we got. We also need Miller back badly so Petey isn't the only possession threat up front. Petey has been excellent (didnt do much yesterday but hes been on a tear) but we need a second line that can pressure teams. The overreliance on Hughes is going to bite us eventually.
For any other defenseman, the vast majority of their playing time is off the puck. For Quinn its all on puck, either he has it or he's pressuring or supporting the person who does. It's not all about minutes either we need to make his minutes easier. Have other people support better and carry the puck to take pressure off him both 5 on 5 and on the PP. Our entire PP is stand around and give it to Hughes and let him do it. Petey and him should be cycling and moving and causing chaos.

guy has clips yelling at teammates to "get the frank outta the way"
Like McDavid attacks, but he resets and is more calculating in the neutral zone waiting for teammates.
Mackinnon is yelling for the puck and doesn't not want to allow the defense to change, and isnt waiting for teammates
Thed problem isn't the average, it's the workload in the last few games.
That said, the last 5 games the only guys average 26+ a night are Werenski/Makar/Hughes/Seider/Josi.
The elite of the league + poor overworked Seider.
Leaning on your best players is not a Canucks only problem.
Still one they need to solve.
So many highlights of Makar doing a simple pass to Mack in their half of the neutral zone and getting a free primary assist.
Something interesting is that both Mack and Makar have shit posession numbers without each other (~40 xG%) but then they are just dynamite together.
I just don't get the avs. Are they are a great team with shitty goaltending or a mid team with shitty goaltending and 3 outstanding elite talents.
If they are actually good why are Mack and Makar so lost without each other?

I'd expect him to be getting lots of PP minutes. PP1 will probably look something like:

Hughes is used to doing a lot of the heavy lifting himself, I wonder what that translates to when he has so much talent around him.
It's possible we see him try to do a bit too much himself, or overcompensate and defer too much to others. Hope he shines but you never know.

Avs have pretty awful depth. Toews has also shown a massive regression this season, could look like an ugly contract going forward.
If you have one of the best players in the world you play your best player in the world and do so a lot. The list you have is #1 D-men. It's not anything unusual.
This is why the coaching staff has Hughes take days off. That is how you manage the workload.

McDavid aside (and maybe MacKinnon) I wouldn't take any other player in the league over him.
Have no issues if we end up making him the highest paid player in the league, as long as it's for 8 years.
Looks so confident out there, might actually be intimidating to play against for opposing teams despite his size.
Beaver tapping a lot more as of late and seems frustrated at times when he doesn't get the puck, yet never plays like he's frustrated. He knows he's dominant right now and the play should always go through him. It's clear Myers has been given strict instructions to look for Hughes whenever he gets the puck and stay the f*** out of the way lol.
Hockey typically cannot be played like basketball but his combination of skating, puck-handling and IQ is so high right now that it actually looks like basketball where the play just simply always goes through the star player.

I would love to see the data (if any) behind anyone arguing for Makar over Hughes for Norris at this point.
If I was a betting man, I wager a good portion of the people who argue that way thought Stamkos was going to be a PPG player without Kucherov this season and lead the Preds to a top 3 spot in their division are also on the Makar>Hughes train.
Not a knock to the guy either as they're clearly the top 2 in the league, but Quinn looks like when you're in be a player mode in an EA video game and decide the AI is borderline useless so you'll do it yourself, setting up open nets that no idiot could miss.

It must really grind every Avs fans' gears that Hughes turned out to be better than Makar all along.
I bet they are so bent out of shape, they secretly watch our forum just to see what is being said about the comparison. You know who you are.
Anyway, no need to ever talk about Makar, the focus should be on Hughes, his edge work and ability to match his reads to his physical abilities. Guy could be a (newtonian) physicist.
Who am I kidding, guy could probably an einsteinian physicist. Speaking of Albert, if you haven't heard the first hand account of how that journalist tracked down his brain, look it up. Fascinating stuff.
