In one 2 minute interview Hughes was more honest and forthcoming than Tochett, Allvin and Rutherford, yet also made this entire EP40 vs JTM seem like no big deal, and just more of something that happens when players are struggling to play their best hockey.
I feel like the three of them (Tochett, Allvin and Rutherford) could all take some notes from Hughes here.
If they had handled it like Hughes did, I think they could have prevented it from becoming such a big story (and more importantly such a distraction).

Right now, Quinn Hughes is virtually the only reason for even watching the Canucks.
If he to ever go down, knock on wood, it would basically be time to run up the white flag on the entire season.

Ok let me help you one more time:
JT Miller is paid 8 mil per year to not score while not playing with Quinn Hughes.
Brock Boeser is paid 6.65 mil per year to not score while not playing with Quinn Hughes.
Jake DeBrusk is paid 5.5 mil per year to not score while not playing with Quinn Hughes.

Hughes rarely shows any emotion on the ice or on the bench. He just goes out there and dominates.
But tonight was different. You could see the way he shaking his head at times when the came to the bench. Even he's frustrated with this team right now.
I know he won't win the Hart--but he should. He's about all the Canucks have right now who's driving any offense. Without him, they're basically nowhere in the league standings.

Hughes is the only defenceman leading his team in scoring at the moment, and he has 53% more points than the next highest scoring player on the team.

He is quite literally the leading Hart trophy candidate if you go by what the award is supposed to be about (i.e. the player most valuable to his team). This team looks like a top Stanley Cup contender with him on the ice and a disorganized disaster/lottery team without.

Some on HF Sabres are convinced you guys want Byram. First off, I don't see the fit. Secondly, if Byram wants to be *the guy*, Vancouver is one of the last places he should be looking.

Because they entered the league together in 1970, the Sabres are one of the teams in the East that I've always pulled for.
But these are trying times for Buffalo fans. A bit baffling really. The same owners also own the Buffalo Bills, and they're one of the NFL's success stories year after year.
I see the GM Kevyn Adams complained recently that Buffalo 'doesn't have palm trees and low state taxes' and no free agents want to come. But it wasn't too long ago that Vancouver was in the same boat.
But hope springs eternal. Neither the Sabres or Canucks have ever won a Cup.....just hope it happens before I pass on.

Allvin targeted Byram when the Avs asked for Miller, but they said no, it's the most likely target amongst Sabres D.
I know the Sedins and Bure are in the HOF, and are the best in franchise history.
But if Quinn Hughes plays his entire career in Vancouver then he'll go down as the best player ever lace them up for the Canucks. I don't think the debate will really be that 'close'.
Of course there also a chance that he tires of the Vancouver market and flees as a UFA, perhaps to join in brothers in Jersey. But even if he leaves, he's still the best we've ever seen in Vancouver.
At least that's one man' opinion.

Noted calder trophy winner Tyler Myers.
HockeyViz has a real simple visual of the D pairings at 5 on 5. Myers moved from 2nd pair to first pair. Juulsen moved to the second pair.
If Quinn keeps it up then yes. If he captains the Canucks to a Stanley Cup victory then crown him. Canucks' hockey lore dictates that Quinn needs to at least make it to the Cup Finals as a Canuck to rank among the best.
