Man, not only is this so bad for our chances to actually win games, but this probably kills his Norris campaign too.

I maintain that he would’ve won the Norris and been a Hart finalist if he played more than 75 games.

Hughes somehow managed to be better this year than his Norris winning season. I have no doubt he will be even better next year. His Norris/Hart contention window is still wide open.

If Petey and Miller ever bounce back to being star players, I can legit see Hughes having a 100 points season or two, which would be insanity with his elite defensive play.

Hughes has progressed from being the best defenseman to one of the very best players in the world. He didn't like his defensive play and +/-, no problem, he fixes it. Same thing with his shot. He takes on the captaincy, people question the move because of his age and other personalities on the team, and he responds by winning the Norris in season one with the C. And he only just turned 25 in October. Best player in franchise history.
Is the r in your username silent? Because it is invisible.

You let him rest,
do NOT rush Quinn Hughes
Yeah, as much as we literally cannot win games without him, and as much as I wanted to see him beat Makar head to head for the Norris again, we need to focus on his long term health.

Rushing back from injury before it's fully healed can cause it to become a more chronic, longer-term injury that could pop up again down the road at the worst times.

When he's back, I want him to be at 110%.

If you define a 1D as the top 32 in the league by ATOI, #1 has played 26:17 at all strengths and #32 has played 23:19. Hughes is #6 at 25:08, so a minute behind first and a minute and a half ahead of last. Will leave that up to interpretation whether that’s unreasonable.

Makar now 6 points up on Hughes with 5 more games played.

Werenski is 1 point up on Hughes with 5 more games played.

It's a real shame because these two Seattle and Calgary games are games where he easily could be racking up points.

The dream of back-to-back Norrises is slipping away. Hughes with more Norrises than Makar would have people losing their minds.

What type of injuries do you think happen when playing tired?

Its not that fatigue can’t make him more susceptible to an arm injury due to various factors (decrease in stretch needed to injure a muscle, reduced proprioception, etc), it’s that hockey players are hacked and whacked and hit enough that it’s more likely just how things go in a contact sport than the result of an extra couple minutes a game.

I dont think the statistics back your intuition.

But lets agree to disagree.

Lots of rumblings about him returning in the next 1-3 games.

While that’s very exciting if he’s fully recovered, if he isn’t, then it’s very concerning.

The original thought was that he would be missing about 3 weeks or 10 games in total. We’re about halfway through that timeline right now.

He’s the last player we should be rushing back from injury.

The team has looked so unbelievably pathetic without him that it seems very likely that both the team and Quinn himself are under a lot of pressure to get in back into the lineup ASAP.

But if he’s still got a lingering injury, he won’t be as effective as we need him to be, and he risks turning the injury into something that doesn’t go away and bothers him long-term.

Really hoping that if he returns soon, he’s 100% recovered.

Lol another 2 points in his return. Kid is a point machine.

5 back of makar now
Unless he has a heart of gold, he is for sure overcharging them on his next contract. It is unreal how much of an impact he has when he's on the ice versus off. They go from playoff team to worst in the league.

Not sure if Hughes should be playing being splinted up like that, scares the crap out of me, but holy hell is he amazing. If it wasn't for his injury, I would of thought he would be one of the leading candidates for the Hart trophy. This team is completely lost without him.

5 points back of Makar with 6 fewer games played.

And again, Makar's teammates are #1 and #3 in NHL scoring.

Hughes' closest teammate is #90 in NHL scoring.

That being said, because Hughes missed 3 games, he only has 2 real games in hand on Makar to make up those 5 points.

And honestly I'd expect him to slow down, production wise, because it doesn't look like he can shoot the puck very well with his injury. He shied away from taking shots on the PP when he normally gets the puck on net.

More Quinn Hughes is amazing data:

Anyone got the 2025 Quinn Hughes JFresh card?

I hate our management right now. They learned nothing from Mikheyev.

They are risking the entire franchise (Hughes) and for what?
