The points are finally starting to come so then PP time is all he needs? The LOL of the night was a Nucks fan already mentioning a Canucks/Sabres final this season. That gave me a good laugh.

Maybe they mentioned it along the lines of it would be fun as they are expansion cousins and both celebrating 50 years in the league.

Just stop. You’ve embarrassed yourself enough already.

You sound upset. Don’t worry about it too much.

hmmmm he doesnt remind me of patty kane... i may be dating myself a bit here , but honestly... he reminds me of a shorter and thinner Sandis Ozolinsh.
One quick fake and staight line speed for the breakout. Turns on a dime while corralling the puck. Not afaid to shoot on the pp ..acts like a 4th forward 5 on 5.
Sandis had a bit of a hunched skating style and even tho he was 6'2, he kind or reminds me of Quinn

in his prime, Sandis was a 50pt - 60pt dman. I hope Hughes can do that

You're allowed to admit that you hate the Canucks and Hughes. Its kind of funny no matter how well Hughes does you always reach for another thing to put him down. Be happy you have Makar and don't act petty or jealous because it looks bad on you.

NHL dmans are known for racking up a fair share of their individual points on the powerplay. there is nothing wrong with that, and it's absolutely normal.

fan bases say a lot of stupid things it happens, that's a funny one, don't have to take it too seriously and use it against us for life.

Spot on

it will actually be an indicator of what a all star dman is, so not a top 4, but literally a number 1 dman according to these advanced stats. But it's early on. I hope he keeps it up.

They dont yet have a regulation or overtime win over a playoff team yet, it’s Early for sure. Their one win was against one (the champs) was in a shootout. That being said Edmonton also only has one winagainst playoff teams I was told...Toronto too and that one came in overtime Saturday.

Hughes is a future top ten defenceman for sure I doubt it’ll take him long to get there. The one thing that’s blowing my mind is how does the same GM that drafted Pettersson (5th oa) and Hughes (7th oa) also draft Virtanen (6th oa) and Juolevi (5th oa)? Is drafting that much of a crapshoot?

Virtanen Apparently was ownership.
Juolevi Was just a miss

Amateur drafting is not as easy as people think. Example Dallas Stars drafts a gem in Jamie Benn, out right wifts it in the 2009 when they picked up Scott Glennie. It would be the same scouting team that scouted Benn, drafts Glennie.

Bruins pick Pastnark in 2014, had 3 changes to draft any one of Connor, Boeser, Barzal, or Thomas Chabot ends up with none of them the following draft.

Virtanen your guess is good as mine, even if he has slowly developed into an almost serviceable depth guy. Juolevi has been derailed pretty bad by injury, and has been looking better in the AHL this year, and has always shown off his strong vision, IQ, and passing, even when his skating faltered due to those same injuries. Probably will never be the right choice over Tkachuk, but he could still end up being a pretty good D from that draft.

Hate the Quinn VS Cale debate as they are great players on very different teams.

But that said as a Canucks fan im shocked to see Hughes as already our best defender, who logs serious 1st pairing ice time 15 games into his career, all while being our best offensive and defensive player.

Anyone have links handy for Quinn's advanced stats updated to today's game?
And compared to Makar?

This thread just feeds the corsi haters. I/we have all admitted that his corsi is incredible. But at some point that needs to translate to actual points. That is the arguement we're making about him being overhyped/overrated/dumb thread/etc.

Dude needs some production and not jsut a to nof beautiful corsi numbers.

2A for Quin tonight, he's up to 6P in 9GP this season and 9 pts in 14 career games. Finally getting time on PP1, about time Green put him there

bUT he nEeDS to PuT uP moRE pOInTS

Cale Makar Stats | Hockey-Reference.com

2019-20 Colorado Avalanche Roster and Statistics | Hockey-Reference.com

TL;DR - Hughes is not just playing in a top 4 role with 20.40 TOI a game, but excelling at it. Generating more chances, with more Dzone starts than Makar. Makar, playing less, but giving more sheltered minutes and producing more points (assists).

Cale Makar isn't a better player.

- Hughes is averaging 20 mins a game, Makar plays significantly less, and Hughes has some of the best advanced stats for a defenceman so far this season,.

- Hughes has been placed on the 1st unit PP today, while Makar has been doing playing it all season.

How can one possibly think Makar, whom is 1 year older, and playing on a high powered offensive team is better than Hughes because Makar has 2 more points than him?

Defenceman still have to play defence and Hughes has been excelling here playing 20 mins a game and making much more significant impact on the defence corp. Hughes has cemented himself as a top 4 defenceman as a just turned 20 year old rookie.

This guy doesn't represent the majority of us...

... He's also the guy that said/says Pettersson will be better than McDavid.

We're just arguing that Makar/Hughes is a lot closer than people realize; Hughes is exceeding expectations. No one but this guy is saying Hughes > Makar definitively.

Hughes has exceeded my expectations so far. He’s actually pretty damn good in his own end

Sure but it’s still early and not only is the sample size small, the quality of ooonent hasn’t been very strong.

Not trying to take anything aWay, but some kids stArt their career out of a cannon because theirs no pressure, no one expects a rookie dman to do great in the NHL then when their is pressure it can be hard to live up to it. Tyler Myers comes to mind.

playing with Tanev who people dog due to injury is a huge reason he’s getting the ice time and opportunity to excel. Tanev is actually mobile and a top shut down Dman in the league.
Prove me wrong?
