I actually kind of agree. I mean, as you said, that poster has Makar on their team. Makar is very clearly a superior player to Hughes, not even the biggest canucks homer disagrees with that. That particular poster looks like they want to subtly put down Hughes simply because Makar blows Hughes out of the water. Seems weird

I'm a Canucks fan and I disagree with your comment. Makar is probably the better player, but to suggest "Clearly superior" and that he "blows him out of the water" is ridiculous.
I'd love to know what you are basing your comments on, they certainly aren't stat driven.

That's nice and all but Vancouver is 24th in the league on the PP...What good is a PP that generates shots but don't score? Is it a good thing for a PP to generate a lot of shots? Are they just taking bad shots? Is advanced stats even a good measure for special teams?

He's been on the Canucks first unit for one and a half games, and in the one game in that one and a half measure they scored their first road pp goal.

I'm not familiar with advanced stats
How do those look? do they infer that he's a top 4 dman currently?

I see him regularly get out muscled on the puck or cause an odd man rush but he's not bad defensively. With that said, offensively he's really damn good. Kid is a threat whenever he's jumping into the rush or has the puck on his stick bringing it up. Also has a really good outbreak pass.

2 assists tonight I believe. He's really bringing this power play to life almost on his own. Canucks we're 0-21 on the pp when on the road before he was put on the first unit iirc, and now they're what, 3-8 in their last two games? Lots of guesswork off the top of my head here, need a correction or two

He's getting more and more confident and pulling off cheekier and cheekier moves. Such a fun player to watch

He's a future superstar.

Watching him today was a treat. Patrick Kane like on defence is very accurate.

That's my comparison for him, I can't think of any other way to accurately describe his playing style.

He's a franchise defenceman, and is stellar both sides of the ice.

Gets on the first PP unit and starts putting up more points.
I can see him scoring 45+ points this year if he gets that top spot all year.
Guy is a special talent, the way he transitions the puck is just a thing of beauty, Just remarkable stuff.

The points are finally starting to come so then PP time is all he needs? The LOL of the night was a Nucks fan already mentioning a Canucks/Sabres final this season. That gave me a good laugh.

Canucks are not Cup Finals ready yet.
They are starting to hit some good strides, about time too.

Cale Makar isn't a better player.

- Hughes is averaging 20 mins a game, Makar plays significantly less, and Hughes has some of the best advanced stats for a defenceman so far this season,.

- Hughes has been placed on the 1st unit PP today, while Makar has been doing playing it all season.

How can one possibly think Makar, whom is 1 year older, and playing on a high powered offensive team is better than Hughes because Makar has 2 more points than him?

Defenceman still have to play defence and Hughes has been excelling here playing 20 mins a game and making much more significant impact on the defence corp. Hughes has cemented himself as a top 4 defenceman as a just turned 20 year old rookie.
