next leafs gm shouldnt need to come with "big name recognition" necessarily they just need to know how to form the right kind of team that can play in the playoffs .

Dubas is "ahead of his time" and thats not a good thing . Maybe in 15-20yrs you can build a team with almost no physical players and think everything can be relied on offense . But not anytime soon wrong systems wrong guy .

Building a contender, maintaining a functional farm system and finding the last pieces of a championship puzzle are big enough tasks. I'm all for a young smart GM doing the job, but the Dubas experience tells me I don't necessarily need a young smart GM also trying to prove how smart he is, talk up process and then just make bets.

Yes, win with skill in the lead. But figure out a way to protect and enhance that skill and develop the ability to beat different opponents. Don't overwhelm on your strengths only to cut corners on everything else.

So my thread gets crickets. Exactly as I thought...
How can any of us know who or what might be available But that doesn’t change the fact that this team is showing the same old issues and failure for the last 6years and yes I know that Dubas has been the boss for 4 of those years but he has done nothing that has made the team more successfu. He bet everything on a flawed model of spending 50% of the cap on 4 forwards and we are seeing the results of it now

Everyone wants Dubas fired for his lack of experience, so let's bring in another GM with no GM experience!

Nobody wants Dubas fired because he was hired a rookie. Many people thought it was a mistake to hire him and have a rookie learn on the job, but it is his actual performance at the job that is the reason people want him fired.

I personally think he’s done a better than average job, but the decisions that need to be made right now are not ones he’s willing to make. He won’t fire Keefe. He won’t get get rid of Justin Holl. He keeps bringing in and retaining vanilla no-impact middle 6 players like Kerfoot, Jarnkrook, Engvall, etc. He wont fire Justin Holl into the sun. He won’t hold the top players accountable.

Even though the good outweighs the bad, it’s not enough to build a winning team. We’re in the rut Dubas put us in.

At least with the fire Keefe crowd they have Trotz to hold up as the alternative. But say you fire Dubas, who are you bringing in to make franchise altering changes and trading away prime aged star assets? You can't say "ANYONE" because that is a cop out, we all know there are MUCH worse options out there than Dubas. Image hiring an Milbury who trades Matthews for a ham sandwhich.

Lets forget that Kyle wonSo who is it? Personally I don't see any names out there better than Dubas.
Lets forget that Kyle will not replace Kiefe under any circumsatances. If you are removing a GM for the failure to move a stacked lineup forward then the bar is set pretty low. This is a 100pt club with pretty much anyone in the big chair.

If you mean there are GMs that would have gone for a worse solution in goal than Matt Murray, I think not. There are not a lot of potential GMS who would have rolled their season on the choices KD did this year so not a legit arguement that he is in any way safer than than next random guy. There are a whole bunch of potential options who are not GMs now and have out clauses with their current clubs.

They wont keep Kyle because there isn't other strong candidates. There are plenty, they just don't post resumes on HFboards. He will stay because you don't turf a GM 10 games into the season. I am not a Dubaphile but it is about 40 games too early to be saying the season is lost. Marner and Matthews haven't even woke up yet and I am not sure the GM is responsible for that.

Let Dubas build up the farm and draft capital and have a coach/GM like Trotz decide who to spend it on.

Relax there buddy. You made a thread on a Friday and replied 3 hours later.

Funny to see JFJ back in the up and coming category after a second career re-learning the job. It's not an easy job.

John Ferguson Jr., Boston Bruins assistant general manager
"He got his first GM job in his 30s, when he probably wasn't ready, to be honest," one respondent said...

Sounds a lot like someone......

Man, I gotta laugh when I see people saying “dubASS” or “doobler” or whatever, and at the same time think that they’re so clever that they can run the Leafs better than they already are.

You mean the current general manager and president of the Carolina Hurricanes? How are we getting him to give that up?

Everyone wants Dubas fired for his lack of experience, so let's bring in another GM with no GM experience!

He might not have GM experience, but he has a damned sight more NHL experience than Kyle Dubious does.

The people running the team currently have admitted themselves that they haven’t accomplished their internal expectations.

Clever enough to understand that maybe look in the mirror and stop projecting.

What do you think I am, LinkedIn? I'll take most any hockey executive who doesn't believe he's re-inventing hockey and is humble enough to understand he probably isn't the smartest one in the room.

So your option is to just let Dubas flounder around and waste away the years of those “prime age star assets”. Those star assets individually are very good players but just maybe they don’t work as a group and at some point decisions will need to be made

I didn’t like Ferguson as a GM here at all. But man, he was jammed up. Imagine having to start your second season on the job by slashing $30M in payroll and not be allowed to tank and rebuild. It’s hard to imagine any GM thriving like that.
