Batherson isnt signed yet
Free up money for Free agency
All kinds of things they could use murrays money for

You must be one if the dubes fanboys that think it was a good idea to pin all your playoff hopes on a goalie that no one else wanted, couldnt stay healthfor the ladt three years and when healthy shit the bed.
Git a backup that hasnt even one that spot on the capitals lol

But yeah you can stop reading because our goaltending sucked last year and is progressively worse this year

Batherson is signed til 26-27............

Imlach obviously never had a defense like the one Dubas put together. Not one guy who plays with any physical tone.
True, but my point was that Keefe isn't the first coach to try odd things.

Harry Sinden was the first coach to really give a defenceman the green light to rush the puck.

I’m thinking our next GM is going to have to be this guy:

At least with the fire Keefe crowd they have Trotz to hold up as the alternative. But say you fire Dubas, who are you bringing in to make franchise altering changes and trading away prime aged star assets? You can't say "ANYONE" because that is a cop out, we all know there are MUCH worse options out there than Dubas. Image hiring an Milbury who trades Matthews for a ham sandwhich.

So who is it? Personally I don't see any names out there better than Dubas.
LMAO

Tampa and Colorado

Assuming it is all a lot of people have going for them
bye

Fire dubas, put Brandon Pridham as interim GM. Otherwise I would have literally anyone else, and fire all the management, coaching staff, and professional scouting team. Sucks that we have to pay Dubas for the rest of the year when he is let go.

Id understand if Dubas was actually likely to do something but keep in mind hes said the Core is safe / immovable. He wont make a trade in anticipation of the Matthews contract. We need someone who is actually willing to do something.
yep

Michael Futa for GM, let him bring in his own head coach. Ideally someone with experience behind an NHL team.

You are probably right. The problem is, I’m concerned that Dubas puts us in even worse shape after the trade deadline.

The thing is would anyone trust Dubas with any more moves with the Leafs?

It is not about letting Dubas stays or goes but rather the direction the team is heading.
Is it to compete for the Cup this season, if so, the roster needs improvement even if Muz and Lilly are 100% healthy. Would you trust Dubas making those moves like moving high picks or top prospects for rentals?
Or is the direction retool, thus Bunting, Kampf, Holl, Kerfoot and other pending UFAs are available to get picks and prospects, then also the direction on who to draft and scout.
Or is the direction be stay the course and make decisions in the off season. Once again, is Dubas part of that? If he is not, whats the point of him being GM.

Having the GM is more to do with having a vision and striving toward that vision more than having someone at the top to write cheques. If having Dubas while not allowing him to make moves, thats counter productive.

Dubas will figure it out
Is this sarcasm or…?

He had had how many years to figure it out? At this point of the rebuild he should not be trying to still figure it out. We should be tweaking the team for those final complimentary pieces. The team is gutted. We lost way too many good supporting cast members. It’s obvious.

This is like waiting for that 56k modem to load.

Dubas might as well use Justin Trudeau words and say “Don’t worry everyone, the cap will balance it self”.
Yes. It's sarcasm.

If I’m the leafs I would look at Scott Nichol (Nashville), Roberto Luongo (Florida), Mike Gillis, Matthieu Darche ( Tampa), Scott Melanby, Rob DiMaio (STL)

Would you care to compare the resumes and accomplishments of Joe Sakic and Steve Yzerman to that of Kyle Dubas at the time of their respective hirings as GM's?

Compare the regard and reputation that Sakic and Yzerman had within the NHL players and executives, to never having had anything to do in anything other than the OHL Dubas?

Come on, it's a complete slaughter.

It will take a lot to take the Luo away from the Panthers.

Gillis is the guy I would push hard for. I think with the resources that MLSE can provide, Gillis would spend on a lot of crazy off ice stuff that leaves all of us going 'WTF' right away but we will see the results at the end.

What has dubas done to warrant the idea that he is irreplaceable? Overpaid 3 rfas just to keep the "core" together?

The guy failed as a player agent, now he's failing as a gm. Only sad thing is that he's wasted 4+ years of the leafs when there should have been at least some success.

Make Trotz GM and coach, or maybe phone Yzerman and ask him if he could run both teams at once.

/s
I actually really like when the coach is the GM. Pat Quinn was one of our great coaches in the last 20 years and that's because he had complete control over the roster.

The salary cap introduces some complexity but you keep those people close to you.

Instead of having contradicting philosophies between the way the coach wants the team to play and the way the GM wants to build the team. You have an individual who can make the moves he needs to coach and play the team how he sees fit.

This may have been a joke but I see a massive benefit to having an individual as coach and GM. They'd of course have an assistant GM.

This is the culture that this GM has created:

  • Coach calls out players after the yotes game
    • Coach takes it back the next day
  • Coach benches Marner for his atrocious play against the ducks
    • Marner goes to the tunnel to throw a hissy fit
      • note an injury, equipment issue or nature call
  • Coach puts marner back on ice

Anyone who has ever played hockey; first did you ever throw a hissy fit after you were benched by your coach? and if you did; did the coach put you back on ice? I have never seen/heard such a thing.

The culture of this team is f***ed and it is all on Dubas
