It's insane that Konecny played so little when he scored first, had huge hits, and played amazing all over the ice.

Then as soon as Sanheim gets on the PP they score on two in a row.

The coach sunk this team.

Virtanen is an idiot. Blackwood was awful. Hicketts is severely overused and overrated, Hickey and Fleury struggled. Lots of Canadian players playing stupid and undisciplined. Point, Perlini, etc added zero offense, meanwhile Barzal, Konecny, etc sit.

Pretty insane.

Imo Konecny was CDN's best player.

He was one of the clear TOI leaders the entire tourney for Canada, he had to produce something. Only looked dangerous on the PP. Another PP specialist like RNH in 2013. He was a virtual non-factor at ES.

Would be interesting if they kept TOI in this tournament.
Have to think it would be:

Marner

Strome

Perlini
JV

Everyone else.

He was the first person to retaliate when a PP was about to be given to Canada with a good shot at tying up the game in the late stages.

Just admit that it was a stupid decision and we can all move on.

I'm not sure why this is such a controversial statement.

Lots of things went wrong for Canada in this one, including that penalty from Marner.

I'm a leaf fan and it was stupid of him to retaliate and stupid of the ref to call just 1. There wasn't really a "turning point" to this game. No one had a real lead that they blew.

Pissed that our coach flat out sucked.. but regardless, that was a hell of a game. Routing for the Finns/Swedes now

No high end talent. No Petan or Domi to lead the way

Marner & Strome were definitely better prospects than those 2, it takes coaching to create that chemistry that the 2015 team had going

Plenty of people in Canada will watch to the end.

This and I will root for Finland. I love your first line guys. I was eager to see Aho-Puuljarvi and Laine play at WCJ and their dynamite. You played a great game and deserve the win.

As for Canada's performance, you can't play undisciplined players over and over again and hope your team learn discipline. Bench managing was mediocre at best too. Konecny (or Gauthier) should have played the time Virtanen was playing with Strome and Crouse.

Well, hope Virtanen learn from his mistakes. He's still young and has an interesting toolset, need to learn to stay focus and be smarter on the ice which are things that can be taught as he mature in the AHL.

Canada did not deserve to win this game, Finland was the superior team today. My question why the hell did they not play barzel, gauthier and beauvillier line more?

At the end of the day Marner was the only reason why Canada was even close to winning this game

Leafs have a star in this kid. You unfortunately bandwagoned the wrong team :(

Kid did nothing absolutely nothing the first two periods. Funny how everyone forgets that after a great third

Kähkönen's post-game interview: the man is cold blooded. What a thriller. Terrible defensive plays, amazing offensive plays.

I'm not planning to fault an 18 year old for doing a normal, reactionary thing, that wasn't even serious. The Finnish player did the same thing twice, and baited him into a penalty by throwing his head back. To me, that's the same thing as a dive, and not something I'm prepared to blame Marner for.

Like I said, if we rely on the PP that much this game, we probably didn't deserve to win anyways. I am disappointed right now, but indifferent at the same time because this team was just awful from top to bottom including one of the worst coaching staff in years for Hockey Canada. No one again really showed up, and we were relying too much on top 6 production when we should have had production from all 4 lines. Teams with no depth scoring are never successful. The defense looked awful this game aswell. I dont even want to get started there because thats a whole other rant.
I agree with that. It wasn't good enough.

Whatever, the finn did the exact same thing twice to Marner. You want to know why it was called on Marner? Because the Finn player embellished like crazy grabbing at his throat and staggering around.

If it wasn't for Marner, we would have lost by 3+ goals.

The Finn didn't hit Marner in the face, he hit him in the chest a couple times. Marner got in trouble when he hit the Finn in the jaw, it was a stupid move.

This team completely lacked discipline the entire tournament, starting with Virtanen who could do stupid things all the time and never sit for it.

And you should start working on saying "would you like to large size that meal?" Wishing things on kids that may not have played the best but gave their all. Good grief. You and a lot of others should be ashamed.

The hyperbole here is shameful. These are teenagers playing hockey.

The overemotional responses and comments are more foolish than the players (Virtanen, Marner, etc.) that some posters are insulting here. Just awful.

From the opening game of the tournament one could tell that this was a weaker Team Canada. This QF exit is not surprising based on how they played all tournament.
