Great documentary on Virt after the game.

Would love to have that type of player in a 7 game series. JR game is different from NHL and especially NHL playoffs

Except that he was also ineffectual at best and idiotic at worst in the NHL as well. Just not much of a player there.

IMO the Marner penalty was the TSN turning point of the game w. 3 minutes left. Killed a PP chance and took our offensive player off the ice.

He should be back in Minor Hockey.

... Virtanen's two penalties were the turning point. 4 minutes on the PP, gave Finland the lead, and killed all the momentum Canada had

The countless times I've mentioned exactly what you just said..but there is no defending that penalty.

Nah, that's dumb. If you're punched in the face twice, you pretty much retaliate on instinct...especially as a teenager. IQ has nothing to do with it. Ref was the one who made a mistake there.

And finally, Marner is 18. He wouldn't be the first person to retaliate after getting pushed in the face twice.

He was the first person to retaliate when a PP was about to be given to Canada with a good shot at tying up the game in the late stages.

Just admit that it was a stupid decision and we can all move on.

I'm not sure why this is such a controversial statement.

Lots of things went wrong for Canada in this one, including that penalty from Marner.

Canada didn't deserve a chance at a medal based on how they played overall in the tourney.

Exciting game and they played with all heart ... But their weaknesses were very much exposed.

Great experience for guys like Strome and Marner though - they should be even better next year.
I think Strome is going to be in the NHL but Marner should be back.

That was a punch? More like a lovetap. But considering over half of your comments in these GDT's were just ragging on Marner, I'm not really surprised here. Without him we lose 6-3.
Yet I call him one of the best three players in the tournament.

It was unnecessary. Lovetap or not..unnecessary.

Virtanen's 2 penalties cost us the game and then Marner negated a PP that would have been crucial late with an unnecessary punch.

Learn to watch the game without rose coloured glasses.

Neither the original call nor the one on Marner should have been penalties in the first place.

Is Ray Ferraro always this much of a homer?

He was Canada's top point producer, so that should amount to something...

He was one of the clear TOI leaders the entire tourney for Canada, he had to produce something. Only looked dangerous on the PP. Another PP specialist like RNH in 2013. He was a virtual non-factor at ES.

No worries boys, we could've had McDavid, Bennett, Reinhart, Ekblad on this team.

When we don't medal at the Olympics, THAT'S when we panic.

GO CANADA GO GOLD MEDALS OLYMPICS BABY WOOOOOO!

BACK2BACK
Every team are missing some players, not just Canada. I'm always embarrassed with these same excuses every year.

Congrats, Finland. That top line is incredible.

Horrible tournament for Canada; blame the refs all you wants kids, you did this to yourselves.

I hope someone buys Virtanen's groceries and does his laundry, cause he just doesn't have the mental capacity for tasks like that.

Blackwood was pretty darn mediocre. Rather than ban Euro goalies from the CHL, maybe we should develop our own goalies and let them compete with the worlds best? Maybe invite more than 3 goalies to camp and allow some competition? Just a thought

Well I'm sure he can he'll be making NHL money, I'm sure you would take his life over yours any day lmao

For me, it was Virtanen taking two penalties in the same shift.

Our fate was sealed at that point.

Here are the 3 reasons why Canada lost:

1-Lowry
2-Blackwood
3-Virtanen

2 and 3 were Lowry's fault.

Then end....drops mic

That's the least surprising defeat of Canada I've ever witnessed. It was so obvious this team just didn't have it. Absolutely moronic penalties, and very slow decision-making all over the ice. They're lucky to have even gotten this far. That team was not good.

Congrats to Finland. Good luck in the next round.

Disappointed for the Flyers guys on the team. Would've liked to see Konecny and Sanheim get some more ice time. Konecny, at least, definitely was deserving of it.
