I agree there but the refs arm didnt go up until the Finn acted like he was punched by Tyson.

It's the dive that got the call no? Should Marner have dived for an attempt at a 5 on 3 when he got one in the chops there?

Judging by how IIHF refs get suckered in like that, maybe he should have but is that a sportmanlike way to play the game?

The refs were getting suckered in easily in this one.

I think Strome sold his a little bit hoping for a major.

But when there's no time left in the game, and you're losing, you keep your ****ing hands to yourself.

That's the bottom line.

You'd think Virtanen would have offered an object lesson in this very game.

Canada has nobody to blame but themselves. They could have easily won this game, Blackwood and bad discipline ruined it. Blackwood shouldn't have seen a minute of that third period.

I think it is the worst ever. He had a huge NEGATIVE impact on the team. If he was just invisible I wouldn't have cared. But he literally cost Team Canada the tournament.

Canada's had goaltenders play significantly worse over a whole tournament than he did. Also, that usually has a bigger impact. Canada had some really good teams not win this tournament over the past 10 years on the backs of horrendous goaltending only.

Unfortunately this was Virtanen's best game until he took 4 stupid penalties, one negating a 5 on 3 and then took two at a time, one of which they scored the GWG on.

Very bad decisions by him and Marner shouldn't have retaliated. Canada never got it together, lost any hope at a medal after Denmark

Puljujärvi and Laine have been exceptional in this tournament. Aho is so far the best center in this tournament. Finland has not any great stay-at-home defenders in the team. We will see is there enough potential to win the next games with only a great offense.

I found it hard to believe that Finland was so optimistic based no coaching and 17 year olds. Turns out I was wrong. The 17 year olds have been great, and coaching was certainly a factor in the game. Embarrassing loss for Canada, but not unexpected.

I've hated him for the whole tournament, but McKeown had a good game today. That's about it.

Mckeown was good especially in the first two periods

I have a heck of a lot of blame on the coaching. Marner with Point and Perlini? You put that man with Strome and Crouse. Crouse in the front of the net, Strome on the boards and Marner the magician.

Discipline was pretty bad for the team. The same goes for our goaltenders. Those are really the two main difference makers.

And coaching. The coaching was ****. How do you keep riding guys who put themselves above the team. Some idiot had to keep putting Virtanen back on the ice. That idiot needs to go as well. Unbelievable.

LMAO

Who here edited his wikipedia entry?

Virtanen played junior hockey with the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League (WHL) and has represented Canada four times in international competition at the 2013 World U-17 Hockey Challenge, 2014 IIHF World U18 Championships , 2015 IIHF World U20 Championships, and 2016 IIHF World U20 Championships. He is often criticized with the throwing of the 2016 IIHF World U20 Championships quarter-final Canada vs Finland game by taking awful, deliberate, late game penalties ultimately costing Canada the game.

In any event, it would have been a lot for this team to win Gold, even if they had beaten Finland.

So it's really not a huge deal that they got bumped out at this stage.

Finns, I love the top end talent of your team, Pulju and Laine will result in a very solid draft year for the Finns. All respect to your team.

Canada needs new goaltending prodigies, the last hyped prospect was Fucale. I mean we should have a pipeline damnit, Quebec do your job! You always produce our best goalies lol.

Dammit, they used to be a top level goalie producing machine. We got used to it but that was so long ago

Stunning to watch the NHL player be the worst player on the team in an important game.

Good result for Finland, they earned it. Canada just completely melted down in the discipline department, having watched my home nation do it the last two years, this is exactly where you wind up...

Stunningly bad tournament by Canada, then again they don't have one of the five best players here so it was certainly a strange year.

How many times to we have to be screwed by horse crap officiating at a IIHF event before Canada just says ef them and leaves?

What is the IIHF going to do hold their tournaments in front of 200 people with $500 worth of sponsorship money.

Finland did nothing to win this game but wait on the BS officiating they have relied on all tournament long and of course the crappy IIHF refs obliged.

This Canadian team had issues for sure but the garbage calls were the reason they lost today not their play and certainly not the play of a awful Finnish team.
If year after year the officiating is crap (disagree), the players should know that it will be the same this year too. THEY should smart-up and ADAPT. Winning teams are able to adapt, stupid teams lose. Blaming on the officiating is useless.

Puljujärvi and Laine have been exceptional in this tournament. Aho is so far the best center in this tournament. Finland has not any great stay-at-home defenders in the team. We will see is there enough potential to win the next games with only a great offense.

Which goalie do you start?

I think you have to go with the back-up, no?

Whatever happens on the ice, the opponent can never win. They are just there when Canada loses.

Yeah, I think I recognise this phenomenon - they just stand there confused as Canada scores 6 own goals... It's not like we didn't make many horrible mistakes in the game too.

At least three of the Finns goals should not have scored. Blackwood simply not up to the standard today had barely more than a 70+% save PCT. Several of the penalties were the result of stupidity. Canada largely did themselves in during this game. Must give the Finns credit, they never lost their composure even when they got behind unlike our guys.

Strome was like that a few games this tournament and no one said a word about it. Funny how that works isnt it

There's not a thousand posts about Strome every game. BTW you are correct Strome made some brilliant plays but was invisible a lot of the time as well

You can thank Lowry, Virtanen, Hicketts and Perlini for this. What a joke. Point was an absolute non-factor probably in all games.

I wanted Canada to win but now I am glad it's over for a lot of players on team Canada who were absolutely mismanaged by terrible coach. I can't actually believe how stupid Lowry really is... but it's true, sadly for Canada.

Next year, Canada again as a host, new coach, better players. They will win it again.
