Virtanen did a nice job as a double agent, first showing his Lion-tattoo on Yle and then taking absolutely idiotic penalties.

We haven't had a number 1 goalie since Price. Why can't Canada produce goalies?

Meh, Fucale and Comrie were both pretty good last year. Obviously not Price, but still played pretty well IIRC.

But you are still right. Seems most years the big question mark is the goaltending.

Would be interesting if they kept TOI in this tournament.
Have to think it would be:

Marner

Strome

Everyone else.
Says a lot about the quality of this team when you only have two forwards to depend on

Kähkönen's post-game interview: the man is cold blooded. What a thriller. Terrible defensive plays, amazing offensive plays.

Unfortunately, special teams became the story of the game.

It was entertaining, but I wouldn't call it great hockey.

Sloppy stuff out there.

Hickey falling down, stupid penalties, diving, terrible goaltending.

Certainly fun to watch, but not an exhibition of tremendous hockey.

He was the first person to retaliate when a PP was about to be given to Canada with a good shot at tying up the game in the late stages.

Just admit that it was a stupid decision and we can all move on.

I'm not sure why this is such a controversial statement.

Lots of things went wrong for Canada in this one, including that penalty from Marner.

I agree there but the refs arm didnt go up until the Finn acted like he was punched by Tyson.

It's the dive that got the call no? Should Marner have dived for an attempt at a 5 on 3 when he got one in the chops there?

Judging by how IIHF refs get suckered in like that, maybe he should have but is that a sportmanlike way to play the game?

Finns, I love the top end talent of your team, Pulju and Laine will result in a very solid draft year for the Finns. All respect to your team.

Canada needs new goaltending prodigies, the last hyped prospect was Fucale. I mean we should have a pipeline damnit, Quebec do your job! You always produce our best goalies lol.

He was one of the clear TOI leaders the entire tourney for Canada, he had to produce something. Only looked dangerous on the PP. Another PP specialist like RNH in 2013. He was a virtual non-factor at ES.

That doesn't dispute the fact that he was one of Canada's top point producer while getting lesser line mates. I mean Perlini and Point were very disappointing. Give him Konecny and Barzal and he would be a lot better in ES.

Not even close. That said, it could be the worst appearance for anyone being loaned from the NHL.

I think it is the worst ever. He had a huge NEGATIVE impact on the team. If he was just invisible I wouldn't have cared. But he literally cost Team Canada the tournament.

Imo Konecny was CDN's best player.

I think so too. Only reason he didn't score as much as Strome/Marner was the insane difference in icetime. If he played as much as he deserved I'm sure he would have contributed a bunch of points.

I mean, really what else can a player do to earn icetime? Played with energy, skill, grit, brains, speed, and everything else you want to see. But still got buried and benched,

Everyone else.

I doubt it, let's see if we can find the stat. I think Marner was the most notable when he was on the ice, and that's why it appeared that way. (Which is a good thing)

Congrats, Finland. That top line is incredible.

Horrible tournament for Canada; blame the refs all you wants kids, you did this to yourselves.

I hope someone buys Virtanen's groceries and does his laundry, cause he just doesn't have the mental capacity for tasks like that.

Blackwood was pretty darn mediocre. Rather than ban Euro goalies from the CHL, maybe we should develop our own goalies and let them compete with the worlds best? Maybe invite more than 3 goalies to camp and allow some competition? Just a thought

Right on the money. It is ridiculous to blame the refs. Those Virtanen penalties were legit. Hicketts firing the puck in the stands was not the refs fault. The Worst Team Canada i ever seen in my 23 years of watching this tournament. Dave Lowry was a mediocre player and he was a mediocre coach. Never seen such undisciplined play by Canada. Horrible penalties at the worst time. Finland deserved it. Was an embarrassment for Hockey Canada.

Funny thing is we we were losing when marner took the penalty and it left us 4 on 4. Was it dumb ya, you know they're only taking one but he certainly didn't cost us the game.

The better team won. This tournament has prove how Canada doesn't dominate these tournaments anymore because other countries are developing a number of fantastic players. This loss isn't just because Canada struggled but also because other countries are simply becoming better.

Both teams goalies sucked ass. The offensive talent in both teams were fun to watch. Defense and opening passes were awful. Were gonna loose to Sweden, because they play a much better defensive game...

That goes against everything Marner has been doing in the OHL. He's been an absolutely beast on ES.

What was Barzal doing today? Playing keep away the whole game with himself? Kept playing on the perimeter.

No clue how he was a top 3 player...hasn't shown up since the team started playing decent teams.

You are reaching a bit...:shakehead

I found it hard to believe that Finland was so optimistic based no coaching and 17 year olds. Turns out I was wrong. The 17 year olds have been great, and coaching was certainly a factor in the game. Embarrassing loss for Canada, but not unexpected.

I've hated him for the whole tournament, but McKeown had a good game today. That's about it.

Discipline was pretty bad for the team. The same goes for our goaltenders. Those are really the two main difference makers.

But wow, I'm going to keep a closer eye on some of these Finnish players. They are legit prospects.

Kid did nothing absolutely nothing the first two periods. Funny how everyone forgets that after a great third

Non bias - I agree, I'm a Leafs fan and it seemed he was tripping over himself literally in the first period. Second he just couldn't get his linemates to do ****, he can only carry so much.

But he more than made up for it in the third.

If you tell me you're going to score 2 goals in the game, I don't care. You can score 1 in the 1st period and another in the 2nd or 2 in the 2nd period I don't care, just give me 2 goals.
