Don't think this game changed much for me on who made the team, except I think Smith stays up and is the 7th.

Forwards remain unchanged for me and I believe this is how they'll line up Thursday:

Panarin-Zibanejad-Buchnevich
Kreider-Strome-Kakko
Lemieux-Andersson-Namestnikov
McKegg-Howden-Fast
Nieves

Skjei-Trouba
Staal-DeAngelo
Hajek-Fox
Smith

Hank
Georgiev

I would prefer to send Howden down, but being the 4C is better than the 13th forward. He hasn't done much more than Nieves has to be on the roster. I wonder if they'll be active on the waiver wire and claim someone that could fill a spot up front on the 4th line/13th F to send Howden down.

No matter what Quinn does with the roster, he will be wrong, says HFNYR.
It's not really Quinn's fault. Too many guys need minor league time and there aren't enough bodies.

I like some of what Gorton is doing, don't get me wrong, but his biggest weakness has always been assuming camp goes perfect, nobody ever gets hurt, and he needs 12 players all year.

Couple notes on quinn versus hf: Quinn wasnt brought in to win, he was brought in to instill a culture and teach young players. Quinn knows what he is doin. There is plenty of practice time because of the absurd starting schedule. Every team has a coach that draws the ire of its fans for something, but then again what can quinn do? His center options suck rn because its either 20 year olds or a guy whose development was f***ed by edmonton or vlad who needs star players to elevate his play. Next year you guys can shit on quinn, this year let him figure out what pieces we have and then gorton and jd will deal with it accordingly.

Too soon to tell. His mettle will be tested when he has a team full of actual NHL talent to manage. He has a long leash this year. Starts to get a little tight if no playoffs next year, in the hot seat the year after if no playoffs at all in the following three years starting with this season, just IMO.

That's kind of my point.
There's zero reason for him not to have his full roster intact and ready to play at this point like nearly every other team.
He hasn't played any of the obvious line combos or players in their natural position all while calling for players to step up.
Kravstov on the left?
Chytil to the right??
Laughable
His system is complete garbage.
He sucks at match ups as witnessed tonight.
My question would be.. What has he done right thus far??

I'm still of the opinion Chytil should start in Hartford. He doesnt look as good as he did last camp to me.

He looks fine, but I am not sure how successful he will be in NHL, he looks stronger, but he needs to get much stronger to play Jagr style puck possession hockey.

Queneville was available, I think Rangers should have snapped him up and demoted Quinn to Hartford.

PS.. There isn't a NYR fan alive who couldn't have penciled in this roster well in advance.
Just sayin...

Gordon moved our #2nd line center in Hayes with no replacement and it will hurt us some seasons. But I would not pay him 7 mil so it`s a predicament. They can use Lias as 3rd line center and go with Strome/Nam as 2nd line centers, but it will not be a great solution.

I have to say I was a lot more worried about Kravtsov getting hurt on that play than Cizikas.
Definitely could have gone a lot worse for Cizikas. His landing was not pretty. Could have easily broken his arm/wrist. At least he landed on his side so his head stayed elevated.

He had them playing hard nearly every night last year and they over achieved until the last month when the wheels fell off after TDL. His use of this roster has been puzzling this pre season for sure. There is no reason that guys like Morrow, Haley, Letteri, Nieves, etc should have been here and playing in this game. None. The jury is still out on Quinn.

Words to live by my friends.
Never mistake effort for results....

Sometimes I wish we didn't trade Hayes because he is the #2 center that we desperately need right now and trust me he is going to kill us this year. Looking at the long term I think having Trouba and Lemmy here will make a bigger impact.

I honestly think our first line can do enough to carry us into the playoffs, even if it is as a wildcard. Our d looks much improved, as well as our pp, our pk and our goaltending is showing promise too. Im not stressed about 2c, it will figure itself out. We will have a replacement either through our own system or by trade, just patience is needed.

The D is still unproven and nobody is winning anything with a one line team

I’m really concerned with the beating Hajek takes every game. He’s got to protect himself and add some strength
