Well, the point is, not sure why he threw out 3 kids against the top line for the Islanders to start the OT. Sure preseason but honestly, all three looked lost, we didn't touch the puck and we gave up two chances because the guys were confused.
Everyone was pretty terrible is the last OT against the Devils too, just every Devils golden chance was shot high or wide

Meh. Sink or swim. Quinn has clearly shown he can identify and ride his top line if/when he wants to.

They sank. In a preseason game. It's gonna happen. Everyone wants sink or swim PLAY THE KIDS until they look exposed.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the Islanders are going to finish ahead of the Rangers in the standings.

Trotz is an excellent coach that's going to get all that he can out of what he has. They'll be in the playoff hunt until the very end of the season, IMO.

Back to your point, none of Chytil, Andersson, nor Howden stepped up and offered anything special that separated them from anyone else. Vesey and Namestnikov looked like non-factors outside of Vesey's one takeaway in the 2nd.

Staal is still going to get a lot of ice time. Skjei is going to get 1st pairing minutes. It's going to be a long year.

Things were looking real good for Chytil and Andersson after the 2 goals against NJ and Chytil's dominant performance in the offensive zone. Now, maybe not so much anymore.

So you mean sometimes young players are going to make youthful mistakes, and their development isn’t always a straight arrow up...and sometimes Henke is going to look all of 36-years-old...and the team isn’t going to fully implement Quinn’s system...and that aside from the top line there isn’t enough dependable offensive depth in this lineup? Did not see that coming at all.
Mentioned it earlier in the thread, but it's going to take a full year to get AV's stench out from the team. Not enough stepping up in the NZ and too much backing up on the puck carriers.

It also doesn't help that Barzal would pass Gretzky in points if he played the Rangers every game.

I like the trust of throwing Andersson out in OT, especially in pre-season where it doesn't mean much, but he should never start OT. He got burned and was reason they didn't have a chance to touch the puck.

Been saying the exact same thing, right down to the Islanders’ prediction.
I think the Islanders and Senators are going to trap as hard as they possibly can to squeeze as many points out of this season as humanly possible, especially the Senators

Ya, 3 on 3 is probably a learning curve for Quinn. Good thing we got a few 3 on 3s already.

Pretty stupid shift. Guys tired, beaten twice to the inside in 30 seconds. Not a very smart coaching move putting two rookies who barely saw any 3 on 3 time in their short stint with Hartford last year on the ice against the Islanders top line. Bad coaching.

IF there is a time to f*** around with shit like that, its the pre season.

This team is really going to struggle to score 5v5 this year though.

It might happen @I Eat Crow - most experts have us at far bottom on the table - I actually miss JT. Miller not sure why Gorton moved him.
Eh, if what I heard about him in the locker room is true, I'm glad he was dealt. The Rangers front office is trying to bring cohesion back to the locker room and build it from the ground up with a new core. Miller wouldn't have bought into that from what I can gather.

That's even him being a bozo on the ice notwithstanding.

He's just trying to get the young guys out there in OT and towards the end of the game. I'm pretty sure Buchnevich didn't play the last 10 minutes and Zuccarello got like one or two shifts the last 10 minutes.

It doesn't matter. I'd agree if this was a regular season game. I'll give Quinn the benefit of the doubt that this coaching was because it was preseason. If he does this in the regular season, obviously he deserves a lot of criticism.

Man, this thread is quite depressing. This is what everyone expected and asked for except for a few posters like Machinehead and now we're being depressingly negative about it.
Good thing I never wanted this rebuild because now I can freely crap all over it.

We have a dearth of NHL talent because we decided muh rebuild, and left kids who clearly aren't ready, as well as NHL players who have no business in the role they're in, with zero insolation.

Straight out of the Edmonton Oilers rebuilding school.

This is not the game for the sky to be falling. Overtime loss where we were only mildly outplayed. I guarantee you that the Presidents' Trophy winning team will have a number of those.

Get the feeling Henrik would need to play out of his forehead for this team to not be one of the bottom five teams in the league.
Fine with me. I want Hughes.

There are teams who will tank harder for sure like Canucks, Ottawa, Canadians they all look really bad this year especially after Vancouver lost 6-0 vs Oilers. :)

I’m not depressed about all about it. This is what I expected. This is going to be painful for some people. And there is no guarantee it all falls into place cleanly. But, if it does, and management delivers on their vision it will be worth it. But, again, I’m not naive to believe it will be an easy process. And I’m prepared for some very ugly nights this season.

True but between the poor execution in OT and the mismatch, that was a sink situation for the kids before the puck was dropped.

Not even close to the Oilers. How many good established vets did they have? All of their good players were young guys who weren't ready.

Unfortunately you’re going to see a lot of that this season.

It’s also because everyone’s idea of a rebuild is inevitably easier and smoother, because the picture is taken at a 10,000 foot view.

The reality is that even if it’s sucessful, it’s a bumpy road with lots of twists and turns.

This sure is a rookie coach, what the hell did he put on the ice for the OT? Like he has no clue...

I also hear he's driving them too hard at practice, they're exhausted. Save the energy for the games!

What did you guys expect to see in pre-season with a new coach, new system, plenty of young inexperienced players? They have had their good and bad, their ups and downs, just as expected.
