Hank needs to make some adjustments. Relying on reflexes at age 36 isn't the best way to go.

But that was also some real tire fire defense.

A great game by Zib & Buch tonight unfortunate that the game went to OT and new players get the chance since it`s pre season.

Pretty stupid shift. Guys tired, beaten twice to the inside in 30 seconds. Not a very smart coaching move putting two rookies who barely saw any 3 on 3 time in their short stint with Hartford last year on the ice against the Islanders top line. Bad coaching.

My bigger concern is they seem very bland and uncreative offensively.

At ES looks like point shots or nothing which would be fine except for the whale poo soft bottom 3 lines tonight.

They remind me of the Bruins in what they're trying to do, except without the talent or drive to actually do it.

I didn't think we were that bad this game. Islanders were better, but we weren't embarrassed there by any stretch.
I think this is kind of what management wants from this season, I can’t remember exactly what Vegas’ owner said before last season but it was something like “we’re going to try to lose games by 1 or 2 goals rather than 4 or 5.” Their season went way beyond that, but based on everything they’ve done, it really looks like that’s how Gorton and co see this season too

I guess it depends on your expectations (or if you have money on the game).....you want them to put the guys that will be actually there in the regular season....or....in a preseason game, maybe put out the young guys and see if they can do anything. It didn't work in tonights preseason game. The isles had very, very few youngsters (if any) in their lineup...and we had a little less than half of our regular lineup being our young guys.

But bad coaching? You gotta be kidding....this is what the preseason is all about.

I mean, the lines tonight were absolute and complete utter trash aside from KZB.

Other than the guys I expect to lead the team, no one seemed to reach out tonight and say I should make the team. The score oooked better than the effort.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the Islanders are going to finish ahead of the Rangers in the standings.

Trotz is an excellent coach that's going to get all that he can out of what he has. They'll be in the playoff hunt until the very end of the season, IMO.

Back to your point, none of Chytil, Andersson, nor Howden stepped up and offered anything special that separated them from anyone else. Vesey and Namestnikov looked like non-factors outside of Vesey's one takeaway in the 2nd.

Staal is still going to get a lot of ice time. Skjei is going to get 1st pairing minutes. It's going to be a long year.

Vesey and staal wouldn’t make this team if it wasn’t for their contracts

Yeah, most people don't make the team without a contract. In all seriousness, Vesey's contract (cap hit) isn't why he's on the team.

So you mean sometimes young players are going to make youthful mistakes, and their development isn’t always a straight arrow up...and sometimes Henke is going to look all of 36-years-old...and the team isn’t going to fully implement Quinn’s system...and that aside from the top line there isn’t enough dependable offensive depth in this lineup? Did not see that coming at all.

Roster is unfortunately a lot of guys who are not that big, not that fast, not that strong, or an unfortunate combination of that.

They got bodied tonight. In a literal sense.

Well, the point is, not sure why he threw out 3 kids against the top line for the Islanders to start the OT. Sure preseason but honestly, all three looked lost, we didn't touch the puck and we gave up two chances because the guys were confused.

Been saying the exact same thing, right down to the Islanders’ prediction.
