I know it's preseason, but it's the philosophy, not the results.

Can't stand this coach, can't stand the way they play.

We've made every change we can to the roster. This is just AV hockey.

Even when they win, I can't stay interested in these games.

Fontaine looks like a legitimate bottom 6 prospect, which obviously is a good haul for a 6th round pick, overage, one year off his draft season. But I don't think his skating is at the level this team needs it to be right now.

If the team is going to give Chytil or Andersson 9 games, they don't really need anyone else right away unless they plan on Puempel being a spare forward.

It's good to have options. DeAngelo's skating is certainly as advertised.

So, I had a row of Flyers fans behind me that all thought the Staals played together...on Tampa Bay

Yep one has some serious raw talent while the other with eventually become another stepan.

Geez, I think I'm outnumbered around here but I bet Stepan comes back with a better season(s) than last year. That was a dip for sure, but I am going to watch how things go for him. He was one of my favourite Rangers. There, I said it

Chytil has had a lot of defensive lapses. Not sure he is ready yet. He would spend a lot of time in AVs doghouse

A lot is incorrect. Hes had a few which is to be expected of a kid who just turned 18.

If they keep him, I'm sure they have that in mind. Almost no one is ready to play a high level defensive game as a center at 18.

I thought he forced the issue a few times tonight and didn't have a particularly strong game but he was still right smack dab in the middle of this teams best scoring chances tonight. I think hes earned a 9 game look.

They keep saying 34 are left but they're including Fast who hasn't been playing because he's injured, Fogarty who hasn't been playing because he's probably injured (which I surmise is the reason he hasn't been sent to Hartford), Desjardins who IMO has been unimpressive and has probably blown his chances, Farnham who I don't see as a serious threat to make the team. We can pretty much count out Halverson too.

Anyway Buchnevich with a fantastic game. I thought Zucc, Chytil, Andersson and Nash were really good too. Zibanejad looks a bit rusty.

McDonagh with his best game. DeAngelo was sharp.

Henrik best game by far.

Completely based off recency bias:

Kreider-Zibanejad-Buchnevich
Miler-Chytil-Zucc
Vesey-Hayes-Nash --> not happy with this, but Hayes needs to prove me wrong
Grabner-DD-Lettieri/Nieves

I love Fontaine's effort, but want him to get playing time this season. Same with Lias Andersson. Let both get significant time to round out their offensive games because they're already brilliant defensively. Lias needs to have more of an offensive impact in the future, so there's no need to rush him this season.

Defense:

McDonagh-Shattenkirk
Skjei-ADA
Smith-Holden/Pionk

Pavelec
Halverson
Huska
Wall
Jeff Malcolm
Alex Auld
Shesty
Hank :sarcasm:

Nieves is more NHL ready than Lettieri, send Lettieri down. Puempel sits in the press box. When Fast returns, Chytil goes back, and everyone is moved up a spot or Desharnais and Nieves are competing for one spot in the lineup.

Lettieri and Fontaine are later in the season possibilities or next season. There's not a spot for either yet.

What? Skating is Fontaines best attribute except for his awareness and positioning on the ice. He's an excellent skater.

Another interesting matchup this night was Nolan Patrick a higher rank draft pick this summer #1 & 2nd overall was outplayed in my opinion compare to Chytil offensive skills & Lias A. with very strong defensive game. `grin` :)
Lias A. played on the energy line tonight - I don`t demand too much offense from him on such a line, but they were good defensive.

Rangers really miss Jesper. I realize his absence provides more room to look at the glut of players they have but the lack of Fast bothers me going into regular season.

I really like what I'm saying from DeAngelo. His offensive abilities are really, really good.

Chytil has also been great too. Seems to get a little to cute at times, but has so much upside.

Staal.... I think I'm actually starting to feel sorry for him, until I realize he makes $6.5 million to basically be a traffic cone. He does not deserve a spot over ADA or even Holden

With two defensively responsible players in Nash and Zuccarello he will be. At least for 9games

Defense still looks very passive.

I like Tony D, he should be on the opening night roster

He made a couple of glaring mistakes, most notably when he tried to come out from behind the net and turned the puck over. Some of that is likely not fully understanding the speed of the NHL. But, much like the last game I watched him, he makes so much happen offensively.

Chytil will need to be sheltered in his 9-game stint. Andersson, OTOH, plays a solid game defensively, and could be fine in a 4th line role. Is that the best thing for his development?
