I think its more of a mental thing with him. He doesn't speak great English, he just turned 18, he'd be one of the youngest players in recent years to start in the NHL, he seems overwhelmed during interviews, from his answers I almost gathered that he didn't want to start in the NHL. I question how he'd hold up over 82 games, I don't think hockey skill is lacking with him at this level, but is he ready for a full NHL season from a mental standpoint? I don't think so. Andersson, I think is mentally ready, but I think the game is too fast for him right now.

Fair though I think you're probably projecting a bit about his mental state. He's said explicitly that he's trying to make the team out of camp. his unfamiliarity with the languge might be one reason he seemed hesitant

It's a decent point that being so young might be a bit difficult but if he's ready talent wise...

So he can't play here cause his English isn't perfect (it's certainly better than Buch's was when he came over), and he's nervous giving a huge interview, in a foreign language, like a week after his 18th birthday?

Chytil is a bit all over the ice especially in the neutral zone but that's also something that he should learn

His English is better than Erik Karlssons

Maybe, I don't know, I think from just about every standpoint no one thought he had a chance to play in the NHL this season, it wasn't really a thought. He might be able to keep up in the NHL from a skill standpoint right now, but I don't think the team should rush him. I'm not opposed to him getting 9 games, and I hope I am wrong, I would wait a season.

am i the only one who thinks so far through 2 games Staal doesnt have a roster spot?

Skjei, Smith, Shattenkirk, McD, Pionk, ADA, and Holden all have badly outplayed him (so far)

Just tuned in. Who's looking good/bad?

Kreider has Kreidered
DD has been good, as has Hayes.
Shattenkirk has two assists
Chytil is the best player from 2017 draft.

Staal should be AHL-bound and never partnered with John Gilmour on MSG ice.

To be clear, there is a different point saying you would rather have Chytil play in Europe and develop at his own pace at home.

It's an entirely different one to say based on this game he doesn't belong. Based on his play tonight, he clearly does. Now the level of competition isn't what it will be in the regular season but still. He's played very well and is very composed and creative with the puck.

Not the only one.

If a kid deserves to play then be should. Let's see how Chytil plays in the next one.

But as of right now, he has fit in nicely with Zucc and Kreider like he belongs. In fact he has driven the play at times with strong puck possession. Drew two PP.

Desjardins would make for a great 13th forward. May stick as the 12th even when Fast comes back.

I like what I have seen from DD. He is perfect for this team if he is the 4th line center.

I dont think Staal can play for this team or for a lot of teams at this point. He is just too slow.
