So looking at the Oilers, I won't say they will be a playoff team, but if anyone thinks that the Oilers would be worse if they only added Ekblad, Nurse and a UFA to the current blueline while letting Fraser, Belov and Larsen go, I would find that very hard to believe.

That all said, more needs to be done. I still think Vancouver is a place where a "good deal" could be found

They wouldn't be worse but they wouldn't be better. That many rookies on the D is an obvious disaster and could potentially ruin their development.

I doubt it. This is the same place that thought "7th OV + Marincin + 2014 2nd" from EDM was equivalent to "9th OV" from NJD.

Yes, before the season where they traded BOTH Luongo and Schneider and failed their way out of the playoffs.

Alot has changed this that offer.

Now that Arco is locked up for a year I look at that Clifford deal again in the off season. Let's hope LA gets beat in the first round so that they make changes.

Starting the season fresh with Scrivens and Fasth will help big time. Dubnyk cost the Oilers the season in October.

It's true that a lot has changed, but I doubt Gillis's stance on trading good players within the division has. At the very least, we've seen nothing to suggest the contrary.

I can't disagree, but I also can't see him surviving the week, let alone the offseason.

If our D has Marincin, Klefbom, Nurse, and Ekblad to start the season, we're clearly tanking for McDavid/Eichel. You can't seriouly expect to win with 4 D that have combined NHL experience of less than 60 games.

I don't, but I don't expect them to be worse then the one that has Fraser, Belov and Larsen.

Again, I don't want to see that "suggested" group, I just don't want to see any of the junk that's currently there playing just because they have (in Larsen and Fraser's case) NHL experience.

If we have a good top pairing from trades and free agency having 3 of them wouldn't be awful like

Markov - Boychuk
Marincin - Klefbom
Ekblad- Nurse

That is better then we have right now, and not even close to the worse defense in the league.. Although I don't see that happening at all be closer to

UFA - Schultz
Marincin - Klefbom
Ferrence - Nurse/Ekblad
Fraser

I'd for sure do Schultz, Eberle and next year's first for Weber. I've never liked Schultz and I'd still like a future dream of Ekblad Nurse

I would think we should be able to get Markov and Boychuck without getting rid of Petry and Schultz.

Markov - Boychuck

Ference - Schultz
UFA

Looks a lot better to me.

Here is a concept I'd like to go with and maybe it would help later finding guys to bring in.

Trade deadline we get Ekblad.
No one wants to sign and we do no deals, clearly our team is not at all improved so we have to readjust and use prospects to make the team look better and push the rest down to waivers.
Here is what I think the line up could be from just simply that.

Hall - RNH - Eberle
(When this line is on, my god they are on)

Perron - Arcobello - Gagner
(Arcobello has better faceoff and I have always felt Gagner is meant to be a winger)

Hendricks - Gordon - Yakupov
(Dome scoring finese and some great hard workers)

Moroz - Khaira - Pitlick
(Good be good or really bad)

Marincin - Petry
Klefbom - Schultz
Ekblad - Nurse

I mean if we are talking might as well let some young guys get some experience... Right...?

Markov is a pipe dream. It is a possibility he hits the market, especially since they have to give Subban a big pay day. If he is out there, he'll be the most coveted D man -- any contender or bubble team is going to be willing to give him some good coin and maybe a multi-year deal. Why would he leave the East to come to a team that won't even sniff the playoffs while he's still able to play? He'll end up in MTL, DET, or PHI. Maybe even BOS? But he isnt coming here.

We shouldnt be banking on adding any defensive help via UFA.

I agree that Markov is a long shot at best, BUT, what I am saying is that if somehow we were able to land him (massive over-pay) we wouldn't be losing Petry of Schultz in the process.

I don't know why everyone keeps including Eberle in deals. Yak will go way before the Oilers think about moving Eberle. He is locked up, has chemistry with Hall and Nuge and is a fan favorite.

I think its time to stop including him in fantasy proposals. It will never happen.

Yakupov doesn't have chemistry with one single guy on our team. Trade the Russian 10 times out of 10.
