No he didn't. Berglund was vastly more proven as a third line center and had a longer track record of success. Look, I get that people really liked Sobotka around here but the overrating of him is getting ridiculous.
Sobotka was way better than Berglund last year, and I mean waaay better! And nothing, nothing, said that it would change. Sobotka was definitely worth a bit over $3 mill.

Sobotka also played with Schwartz and Tarasenko. You don't think that positively affected his game?

They obviously thought that he was a better fit there than Berglund. Berglund would just slow them down and **** up that line.

Then you didn't watch him at all. He played very well with those two last year.
I wouldn't say he played well. Sobotka was much better with those guys. Berglund has been playing with Oshie and Backes now and is the main reason why that line hasn't worked!

Take emotion out of the equation. I'll give you that Berglund over the course of his career has more ppg and track record etc...

But... you (as the Blues) have to base your decisions on what you see currently. It's why I loved the fact that Army traded EJ when he did. I got crucified on here when I said the Blues should trade EJ about 3 weeks or so before they did. It was the right time based on what they were currently seeing.

Based on watching the entire season last year, even with Sobotka's injury, it's (my opinion) that Soby was and is a far superior hockey player than Bergy.

Did you walk away from last year thinking.. boy Berglund turned a corner, or Berglund got better, or I can't wait to see what Berglund does in 2015??

That's all I base my opinion on. I could care less that Berglund scored 47 & 52 pts before. Without having any, zero inside knowledge I think Berglund is a mental case.

When he plays overseas or with his home country he's looked up for whatever reason and his hockey IQ jumps 50 pts. But stick him in the NHL and his confidence is always 0 or has to be padded and his performance shows it.

Linstrom seems like a failed experiment to me and I said Berglund should have been on the move last year (assuming Sobie were to stay).

In the first handful of games Lindstrom looked pretty promising as a part of the 20-26-10 line, but since then he has been anywhere between unremarkable and noticably bad

Can you believe he didn't have a hatty tonight playing with Lindstrom and Porter? ****in duster

Don't forget the occasional shifts with the almighty MPS, Ott, and Reaves as of late.

The guy played well with Schwartz and Tarasenko last year in the limited time, but was also nursing an obvious shoulder injury...Leading to a lack of scoring after years of mediocre linemates.

The guy can work the cycle with players that know how to wheel in a 2 man or 3 man half wall rotation. Schwartz, Tarasenko, and now Lehtera are those type of players, but more-so the latter two. Shocking...Skilled Europeans that work the give and go would be the best linemates for a European that does his best work off a half wall cycle where each man is a threat to go to the middle?

Not that chemistry is a big deal in hockey or anything.

We kept Berglund to play in a shutdown role with Backes and Oshie right?

So which do you prefer:

Sobotka - Backes - Oshie

or

Berglund - Backes - Oshie

Easy pick imo.

My opinion is that Berglund made the line look bad. With Steen out there, Backes and Oshie would've been just fine.

So are you saying that Berglund's presence on this ice caused Oshie to keep tripping over the blue line and stickhandling himself into the corner then caughing it up? Am I understanding you correctly?

Are you basing your argument against Berglund about a universe that doesn't exist? You know...The one where Sobotka actually signed with the Blues.

Berglund didn't make Oshie and Backes look bad. They did that just fine on their own.
Hard for them to look good when you have a guy dragging down your line. Not saying Oshie and Backes played well, but having a slow and bad possesion guy doesn't help their game.

Berglund didn't drag the line down. He worked the cycle and played solid defense in helping form what should have been a shutdown line. His play had zero to do with Backes and Oshie looking terrible. They looked terrible because they were.

I'm glad there are some people that still believe in Berglund because I have honestly lost all hope in him. I'm just not seeing anything from him. Yeah, he's playing with sub par linemates but there haven't even been glimpses of offensive ability from him.

I will never understand how a big and strong guy like him can be knocked off the puck so easily.
