Probably because he looked nowhere near this good. At least on a consistent basis. He seems to have filled out more, his skating looks better, basically every aspect has improved over this past season. That outlet to Tatar was NHL stuff.

I think it is best long term that we don't try and ride a hot goalie. Even after a Vanecek shutout, I would want to see Blackwood in next game.

I mean 1-0 wins over Boston have happened way more recently. Boston often has trouble finishing even when their best guys are playing and don’t handle our speed well.

Ahh, yes. I believe those were our only shutouts that year and both were against Boston. Actually I’m wrong, I think Wedgewood had two that year and one was against the good ole winning culture right when Blackwood got covid.

We’ve had years of ineptitude against Boston up until that year, although I think Blackwood has a pretty good record against them or at least he did before last year.

It's easily the worst preseason out of the 4 major sports. Hockey thrives off intensity and compete but when most of your guys playing this late at making the roster then it becomes pointless to watch. Speaking of which, I didn't catch any of the game but glad to see our goalies actually looking competent. If we get around like a 910-.915 save from both, we'll be sitting very pretty in the regular season standings.

Yep, “just preseason,” but last year, 7 different goalies weren’t making routine stops. Both Vanecek and Blackwood are making routine stops and then some. All we’ve been asking for is league average, so this is a good sign.
