Let’s at least be realistic. No way is he even available for a trade. New York is contending and they won’t trade good players away while they are
only reason not dealt is nmc
R mgmt may well not listen to bern and be smart, but correct move is not all in a given season but extend the window multiple campaigns
I'm on board to ship him out to get younger, we may have to take a bit of salary back but Im all for it and you will find a large portion of rangers fans who feel the same way
key here is to EXTEND window
Guy has 5 years after this year left at $8.5 million AAV and has been steadily declining. He could bounce back for a few years in a new situation but that’s a huge risk.
Realistically, how much of that contract are the Rangers willing to eat in order to make him a palatable, positive asset to trade - and then at that point, is it even worth it?
You aren’t talking about salary for a year or two…that’s six years of retention…for what? Something that is definitely inferior. He’s not getting some blue chip value back unless you get that salary going back way down.
He is not showing crazy dramatic decline at present, tho it is fair to ? now vs 5 yrs in mid 30s, but that is for 99% of players
what drives us R fans nuts, besides predictability of serious 1 timer slapper on PP, is on/off chemistry w/Kreider, who we view as more consistent
as to return, first job is to establish where he will accept going [and why]
THEN we can figure out what works in terms of assets, etc., totality of factors
personally, I don't see him going w/o Shesty in a package
he has to be told, look
Lindgren, bread, Igor, Trouba, you -- we are not putting vets over our cap picture
we get you want a choice relocation and will try to accommodate
but we run this team, not you/vets
and you don't have to waive
but we don't have to play you first line -- mo like 4th -- when he dress you
