Yeah I really don't see how people can be down after this. This team, as they were last year, are near the top in almost every advanced metric and are just failing to convert. Their unsustainably low PP%, PK% and SH% will normalize. As long as the goaltending gets back to just average they have nothing to worry about.

To be .500 while missing McDavid for 3 games, and Kane the entire year so far, while having a 7.14% all situations shooting% (2nd last in the league) and a combine PP and PK% of 74.7%. Yeah I'm not too worried about it.
Yep, it's going to turn at some point. The shooting percentage will normalize and there's almost no way that the PP and PK continue to be this ineffective. I actually think it's a big feat that they're .500 considering all this.

Edm has allowed a league leading 14 GA on the PK.

They 2nd in xGA with 4.84.

PK GSAx: -9.16

5v5 GSAx: +2.36

Goaltenders seem to be choosing when to make a save.

The 5 on 5 defensive play has actually been pretty good. If they could fix the damn PK, they'd at least have one side of the rink figured out.

Boston sat Pasta for the entire third period of their last game, time for a strong message to be sent from KK to Nuge. He has no accountability and gets gifted prime lineup spots with little effort and no results in return. Time for some tough love.
Worked for Drai, so I don’t see why not.

Our shooting percentage/PP/PK will average out over time. I’m a lot more worried about how soft and small we seem to be. 5 hits all game tonight? Dead last by a lot in hits/60. I know it’s somewhat of a subjective stat but holy that’s just so bad. We better add some muscle, or teams like Winnipeg/Vegas are going to roll us. Hell we had Mantha bullying our D last night and he’s not exactly prime Eric Lindros.

I'm not really surprised with this type of result with all the goals out of the lineup right now... McDavid and Kane + expected regression from Hyman plus all the other players gone is more than 110 goals gone from the lineup right now and nothing "major" coming into the lineup other than Skinner/Arvidsson who certainly aren't going to make up that deficit.

This was very likely going to be a down year offensively and it's playing out so far exactly like that.

The chemistry on the team obviously isn't there yet as well as evidenced by the very poor special team unit's performances so far.

I think things will improve... they can't get much worse... especially the 60% PK which is historically awful so far but when McDavid is back and eventually Kane as well... the offense will no doubt pick up.

I see this team as being offensively average at best though and it's going to take Herculean efforts by McDrai to help drag this team to the playoffs yet again. When those 2 aren't going this team is cooked.

Now I finally have a chance to sit down and watch the game. Normally I can watch it on my PVR but how do I watch it now on my prime app?

It’s been said many times and re-said by Rishaug (he literally asked Knob)- hitting is not a high priority in his system and he does not emphasize it. He believes in checking with “your legs”

There's not really a huge difference in offense from this year to last year at this same point. 35 goals versus 31 goals both season's with ridiculously low shooting percentages to start the year. They're just very uptight to start both years.

Nuge has never been a good 5v5 player. Ever. He isn’t about to become one now

When I saw the game advertised on "Prime" (and nowhere on Sports Net) I ignored it because I thought it might be just an AI generated game designed to test some American interest. I guess it actually happened. I wish the game was an AI program, we could have engineered a better ending.

How many games does "Prime" have the exclusive rights for?

It's for Monday nights only so if the Oilers are playing on a Monday it's basically going to be a Prime game.

There actually is quite a huge difference... people don't seem to see the inevitable drop in offense and seem to think everyone else can just pick up the slack... but we see that isn't happening.

McDavid scored 32... now this one is temporary obviously but he's out so that's a big loss in the short term.

Kane scored 24... he's out long term.

Hyman was expected to revert back to being a ~30 goal scorer and there was no way he was going to repeat the 54 he put up so that's ~24 goals gone.

Foegele scored 20... he's gone.

McLeod scored 12... he's gone.

Ceci 5... he's gone.

Desharnais/Gagner/Holloway/Carrick/Erne.. they combined for 15 goals. They are all gone.

That's a total of 132 goals out of the lineup right now... and sure there's players who are in the lineup who should be able to replace some of that.. but really the team was depending on Skinner and Arvidsson to have huge seasons for the team. These are players that scored 24 and 6 goals respectively last season and I'm sure most were expecting them to easily score 25+ each... maybe even 30+ each BUT chemistry being what it is... it isn't always easy to just plug and play pieces into a lineup and it takes time and patience for players and lines to gel... and sometimes it simply never does happen like people expect. Pozkolzin looks like a decent player as well overall but he's certainly offensively challenged as well in terms of goal scoring... was last season in Vancouver and that continues on the Oilers.

Henrique is a unique situation as well... I could see he was likely doomed in the bottom 6 playing with players like Brown/Janmark and his offensive abilities are likely being snuffed by the stone handed bottom 6 linemates he has... not that Henrique gets absolved of all blame of course... but I'm sure many were looking at him to add 20-25 goals as well to help make up the offensive deficits.

I just couldn't see where all the offense was going to come from and figured this would be a regression year for the team offensively and it's basically playing out exactly like that so far. Bad luck or just not the horses in the lineup and just not the overall team chemistry so far to score like they did last year? Probably both factors are true.

McDavid is the only one that matters really relative to last year's team.

Skinner can match/exceed Foegele if Knob actually lets him play in the top 6.

McLeod at 12 goals, Holloway at 6 goals ... I mean this is not really a lot of offence, Podkolzin I think will start to score at some point, seeing lots of good things from him. They should look at reacquiring Kostin as I've said, think he can score at a 10+ goal rate here too and bring up that anemic hit total.

Kane will be back at some point.

Knoblauch’s wet sock approach is rubbing off on his charges and it’s going wear thin with the media and fans fast. This team needs a fiery leader in moments of complacency like this and he just ain’t it.

Teams playing so much better lately, this loss doesn’t really sting.

Watching this Amazon series on the NHL and god damn who cares about this random game. All I want is to win the Cup and hopefully get a rematch again f***ing Tkachuk.
